Far too many fellow Black men believe we’re the “most oppressed people in the world” because we hyperfocus on state violence and rarely our own patriarchal and interpersonal violence we enact on Black women.

And even then I would argue state violence wildly impacts Black women.
To be clear, this isn’t saying we don’t experience violence. I’m a Black queer man. I know we do. But the framing of “the most” misses the mark — including our own violence that’s heavily based on gender or perception thereof.
Talk about systems that impacts ALL bodies? From police violence to state removal of children to abortion access to contraceptive equity to sexual harassment and assault to... you name it. Black women, especially dark skinned Black women, are impacted first and often.
Coming back to this because I’m reflecting on when Meg was shot. There were so many jokes made about her and the situation. Be clear: it was because of race and size and we deemed her not worthy of protection. It was Black women who supported her. We really have to do better.
