Into my second day on a hospital trolley up the country (I'm grand, but staycation over). Man next to me crying because he has to urinate into a bottle in an open corridor beside busy reception desk. He just wants a bit of privacy and dignity.

I'm sure most people here have similar stories, both privileged & poor (I pay for private coverage). So whatever your ideology, start demanding Irish healthcare is fixed. Base your political decisions on the fact that you might someday be the one asking for a little dignity.

Are you not even motivated by personal pride? Can you not, if even for the sake of how your legacies will be judged by history, apply a measure of the same energy & resources you use to save the economy overnight?

Just do whatever needs to be done. Make the capital investment, find the resources, address the basic shortcomings in care. You're meant to be the most powerful people in the country. With all the wealth and intelligence on this island you can't get this man into a room?
