Read this in full. Speaks volumes about ease of doing business. Some interesting things to note:
1. Some govt department seem to be redundant and/or divided into some departments for no real use. Should ideally be merged(same for ministries at state and central level too). https://twitter.com/svembu/status/1292852659368505347">https://twitter.com/svembu/st...
2. Many departments at local level where officials chill out and/or do zero work. -How do we fix accountability here?
3. Many permissions etc seem very straightforward and should ideally be done online.
4. While many departments have online applications but they are for pomp and show. Websites don& #39;t work many times and/or the process online just leads back to an offline process.(Very similar to PSB customer support where usual answer is: "Sir-branch mein jaake pooch lijiye")
5. Land records are still maintained at local offices. Urgent need to digitise them. But land is a tricky political subject; babu-neta-bahubali complex will not allow digitization of records here so easily.
6. The process of converting agricultural land to industrial is very tricky. Property prices shoot in/around area as soon as that happens-so the rent-seeking behaviour of indian state comes out in full force in such cases.
7. Lastly- the post has an interesting anecdote about behaviour of farmers wrt free water and electricity- not valuing things which come for free creating perverse incentives. Also-no wonder water tables across india are so poor. Bad selection of crops and free water is culprit.
