Escapism time!
A THREAD OF PODCASTS
(IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER).

I promised to make one long ago; I thought of adding extra sketches; I had very little sleep.

By now, I know: I cannot sketch everything on this list. So this is just a thread of love, gratitude, and recommendations.
A SCOTTISH PODCAST
@scottishpodcast

If there is a podcast that speaks to me on both spiritual and molecular level, it’s this one. A delightfully chaotic, explicitly swearing, craft beer brewing mix that feels like home and warms my heart.

You can die trying to explain the plot.
(Hopefully from now on the thread is not screwed by the extra mentions, because there's gonna be A LOT.)
PSEUDOPOD
@Pseudopod_org

Do not be intimidated by the scale of this beast. The beauty of this horror anthology is that you can try any of the tales (I personally do recommend “The Culvert”).

P.S. @AlasdairStuart is the guy you want to explain dark stuff to you on a daily basis.
ARCHIVE 81
@Archive81

The deceiving podcast. Once you come to think you know what it is about, it goes nuts, and I mean Simon R. Green’s “The Nightside” nuts, because
A NON-EUCLIDEAN PERSON
VOMITNG TAPES
A LIVING HOUSE POWERED BY A SENTIENT SUICIDAL GOLDFISH

In a word: bliss.
THE MAGNUS ARCHIVES

At the first glance, it looks like a British sibling of Archive 81, but SURPRISE
IT’S NOT
One of the most beautiful slow-paced drama that gives you hints and keeps you guessing.

When I recommend it to my friends, I say, “Contact me when you start screaming”.
UNWELL
@unwellpodcast

A soft, well-written, well-paced drama that involves weird spaces inside an old house, small town conspiracies, ghosts, astronomy, and a local celery festival.
Yes, it’s that weird.
And yes, it is a very enjoyable story.
KNIFEPOINT HORROR

An old (old as time and EA Podcasts!) and rather sporadic collection of stories by Soren Narnia. Very calm. Very unsettling. If slow-burn horror is your thing, you are going to enjoy this.
THE LOST CAT
@LostCatPod

A weird and hilariously funny grotesque lovecraftian horror about (you’d never guess it!) looking for a lost cat. Contains an album of the music the creator produces, which is some really good tunes.
THE NOSLEEP PODCAST
@NosleepPodcast

One of the leviathans of the genre, a huge horror anthology podcast, that is not always my cup of tea, but is incredible anyway. The art of quite a bunch of people whose voices I know and love was first introduced to me through The NoSleep.
WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE
@NightValeRadio

I heard it.
It didn’t harm me.

And I discovered the one and only, the magic and gentle @elizarickman through their 'weather', and I cannot thank them enough for that.
LIMETOWN
@limetownstories

A town disappears because fuck you that’s why, and a journaliste follows that story. Conspiracy? Weird mutations? Men in black? Strange deer? You name it, they have it.
THE WHITE VAULT
@WhiteVault

It starts as reviewing the materials collected during the investigating a lost expedition to Svalbard - and contains literal chills. And @SiwelP
swearing in Russian.

Toss them an extra coin, because
THE MUSICAL EPISODE
I'M NOT JOKING
IT EXISTS
THE DARK DICE
@DarkDicePod

An actual roleplaying experience which is best consumed right after The White Vault, for it’s basically the same people playing a TTRPG. It has INSANE amount of love and work put into it, and trust me, the charity Pride month episode is a lovely treat.
VAST HORIZON
@VASTPodcast

Another one from Fool & Scholar: a physically painful tale of a scientist who wakes up alone on an abandoned space ship. It’s terrifyingly good, it has an amazing plot - but it’s not for the faint of heart, for you are going to hear a lot of suffering.
LIBERTY
@LibertyEndures

This is the way weird (almost) utopian things should be written; if you are not sure if that’s your thing, try their standalone stories, like “Happiness” or “Excuse Me”. The lore, the idea, the performance: they are delicious.

CW: REALISTIC WET SOUNDS.
STELLAR FIRMA

If you're like, “I need a funny dark dystopia, a synthetic clone every office worker relates to, an evil AI, a megalomaniac wannabe, and something that’s for no reason called Trexel Geistman!” - look no further.

Also, it's mostly improvised.
You will not be ready.
RUSTY QUILL GAMING

This one is really, REALLY hard to explain in its full glory. Yes, that’s another work of @TheRustyQuill. Yes, it’s incredible and going to make you laugh and cry.

But give it an extra listen for the magnificent queer bard NPC called Oscar Wilde.
THE PENUMBRA PODCAST
@thepenumbrapod

I have a complicated relationship with this one, because there are two equally fun storylines in two equally great worlds, but the pacing's a bit off for me.
It is still an amazing mixture of knights and space and noir AND WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE.
WOLF 359
@Wolf359Radio

Oh, just a fun podcast about a nice space station near a non-threatening dwarf star, nothing too complicated, totally not going to give you a shitload of emotions.

(That’s a lie. I'm lying.)
THE BRIGHT SESSIONS
@brightpodcast

I’m still catching up on it, but, in a word: psychotherapy. For those with supernatural powers. I’ll explain no further.
CALLING DARKNESS

It is small, it is unfinished, it is dark and hilarious. A story of a few girls summoned to the mansion for some obscure reasons, which results in total madness. And the living dead. And an angel rolling her eyes so hard you can hear it.
THE GREY ROOMS
@TheGreyRoomspod

A very intense and very... well, what's the word for the near-death experience, that includes actually experiencing deaths?.. Lots of them?.. That's the one.
THE BYRON CHRONICLES

If you squint really hard, you’ll see an occult Doctor Who. One of the oldest serialised dramas about a (possibly) immortal entity. Insane Christmas specials. Very fun Lucifer(s).

You come for the plot, you stay for David Ault finally snapping at Santa.
THE LONDON NECROPOLIS RAILWAY

I’m tempted to call it “a one-shot”; a short story of demons dealing with a stray soul missing a very peculiar train.
ZERO HOURS
@ZeroHoursPod

A few stories of the world, ending. I really needn’t explain anything else, for the beauty of it is the variety of world-ending scenarios.
THE AMELIA PROJECT
@amelia_podcast

A wild story of an organisation that specialises in faking deaths. Includes cocoa, fun, and one the best uses of Russian language in a non-Russian media (BLESS YOU). Will most likely make you cackle in public.
OLD GODS OF APPALACHIA
@oldgodspod

A horror anthology that gives you the stories, the breath of Alternate Appalachia, the glorious voice of the host, and the music by Those Poor Bastards. That last one is a serious sucker punch, for it’s just too good.
ALBA SALIX / THE AXE AND CROWN
@AlbaSalix

Two storylines, one world, magic, fantasy, and a healthy dose of humour. Alba Salix is the royal physician in a small but proud kingdom; the “Axe and Crown” is the name of the pub run by a grumpy troll. Fun, intrigue, LGBTQIA+ themes <3
WOODEN OVERCOATS
@OvercoatsWooden

A chilling tale of the battle of two funeral houses (not really). Anything you can hope for in a story that can be summed up like this. Warning: contains extra dry British humour.
CABIN PRESSURE

Not exactly a podcast, but this radio production is just TOO GOOD (+Google thinks it's a podcast).
A story of an one-plane airline (more like, airDOT ©), including voices of Roger Allam and Anthony S. Head, and one of the best performances of that Cumberbatch lad.
VICTORIOCITY
@Victoriocity

A curious detective story set in Even Greater London, where the undying Queen Victoria still rules.

Steampunk? Check. Detective + journalist duo? Check. The freaking madness of the concept itself? CHECK.

(Also Victoria Regina is truly badass.)
BRIMSTONE VALLEY MALL
@bvmpod

A story of a few demons who walk the earth… I mean, in a shopping mall. In 1999. And are also in a rock band just for the sake of bringing the Apocalypse.

I grew up in 90s, so my mind is too clouded by delight; but you're going to enjoy this one.
DEATH BY DYING
@DeathbyDyingPod

The strange investigative story of the obituary writer of the city of Crestfall, Idaho. Man-eating cats, haunted bicycles, and a priest to die for. It is as insane as it sounds, and it doesn’t even pretend to be a serious story.
CONGERIA
@congeriapodcast

An audio drama in which the last thing you expect is the amputation… oh, wait.
My lips I sealed, I didn’t tell you that.

(Weird, but enjoyable experience, all in all.)
KING FALLS AM
@KingFallsAM

A radio station in a weird small town… and before you think “Night Vale” - no, it is not that grotesque. We experience things with a new radio host who’s a newcomer to King Falls.

And I’m rooting for those swearing old men, in case you listen.
SHADOWS AT THE DOOR
@ShadowsatDoor

PLEASING HORROR, they said.

I started writing the description multiple times, but - sod it. I love these guys and what they do and how they bicker about Shakespeare and Star Trek after the performed story and oh thAT M.R. JAMES BODYPILLOWOHGOD
P.S. to the last tweet in the thread: Believe me, they are just too good to keep politely silent about them.

P.P.S. especially for @Mark__Nixon__: you know I'm not really sorry <3
A final tweet in this thread (so far):
1. I mentioned only those podcasts that I didn't drop and listened to more than a half of them.
2. I mentioned only fictional stories (as for the documentaries, the most thorough I've heard is @unexplainedpod).
3. There will be updates <3
