We are very pleased to see that despite continual claims to the contrary, transphobia, as defined by disgust or fear, is almost negligible amongst the UK public, who are broadly supportive of trans people /2

However, there is some concern around the sharing of toilets and refuges, which shows that despite support towards trans people, there is a recognition of times when sex matters, and that there are conflicting rights to take into account /3
There is no sports question in this survey, but in the BBC Elite British Sportswomen's Survey, also published yesterday, shows that there is a recognition that sex matters in sports too /4
The changes in Public attitudes since 2016 show that although the support for trans people has remained largely the same, the concern around sharing single-sex spaces has grown /5
This change has happened during the time that feminists have been campaigning for women's existing rights to be upheld, and it is a mark of success for our work that there seems to be more awarenes of the conflict in rights amongst the general public /7
The survey shows that, despite accusations thrown at us by trans rights activists, transphobia is not the motivation for defending women's rights in the UK. It shows clearly that, as we have said all along, concerns are about fairness - and this means fairness for women too /8
We have long called for constructive, evidence-based discussions to find practical and fair solutions to the conflict of rights. We are glad to see EHRC now call for this too. /9
The next step must be for Stonewall and others to end their stance of #nodebate and join us to find solutions that work for all. No more boycotting media discussions that include us. /10
