Frank Lampard’s First Season As Chelsea Manager!

A thread:
Frank Lampard was appointed as Chelsea’s head coach on 4th July 2019, returning to the club where he had a hugely successful 13-year playing career.

He replaced Maurizio Sarri who had quite a successful season winning the UEFA Europa League and finishing 3rd in the PL.
Frank Lampard took on the role as Chelsea‘a head coach after leaving Derby County which was his first season as a manager.

He managed to finish 6th in the Championship, however Derby were denied a spot in the PL after losing 2-1 to Aston Villa in the Play-Off Finals.
Despite only having one years worth of experience as a manger, he took the job as Chelsea’s head coach but this came with a variety of different problems that would impact Chelsea’s next season...

Starting with the loss of Chelsea’s most influential player... Eden Hazard! 🇧🇪
Eden Hazard was the most influential player at Chelsea for many years contributing to 31 goals in the 2018/19 PL season.

Hazard signed for Real Madrid on the 13th June 2019 in a deal worth up to £130m.

People wondered how Chelsea would perform without him.
Another major problem Chelsea faced included a Transfer Ban which meant Chelsea couldn’t make any signings for the whole of the 2019/20 season.

However, Kovacic and Pulisic were allowed to join the club during this ban due to prior deals being made. 🇭🇷 🇺🇸
If you would’ve asked any football fan at the beginning of the season:

“Where do you think Chelsea will finish this season?”

The majority of people would have said mid table due to all the problems they were facing... we were potentially looking at a similar season in 2015/16.
With the loss of Eden Hazard and a transfer ban denying Chelsea the chance of replacing their most important player, this allowed for many youth and academy graduates to be given the opportunity and they definitely stepped up to the job!
Tammy Abraham scored 18 goals and 6 assists in all competitions in his debut season at Chelsea under Frank Lampard which is a fantastic output... a vital part of Chelsea’s season. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
Mason Mount also had a fantastic season and is potentially Chelsea’s YPOTY for the 2019/20 season.

Other youth players like Reece James, Fikayo Tomori, Billy Gilmour and Callum Hudson Odoi also made appearances throughout the season.
So, for the 2019/20 season Chelsea had:
- an inexperienced manager
- a transfer ban
- lost Eden Hazard
- doubted by all fans

However, Frank Lampard managed to make miracles happen! 💙
With a dramatic end to the 2019/20 PL season, Frank managed to achieve a Champions League spot beating Wolves 2-0 on the final day of the season to confirm it!

He did the unthinkable for Chelsea who looked to finish mid table but it didn’t end there for Frank.
Frank led Chelsea to an FA Cup Final beating Manchester United 3-1 in the Semis after their fine run of form!

However, they were unfortunate and lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the Final which could’ve been Frank’s first Major Trophy as a manager for the club! 🏆

It wasn’t meant to be!
Frank also led Chelsea into the RO16 of the UCL after coming second in the group above Ajax (you remember that game)!

However, Chelsea took a record breaking defeat in Europe against Bayern Munich losing 7-1 on aggregate which brings me on to my next point.
The positive moments are always followed by the negatives and one of Chelsea’s biggest problems this season as been the defence and keeper.

Despite scoring more goals than last season, Chelsea have conceded 54 goals this season compared to 39 the season prior...
Kepa was signed for £72m from Athletic Bilbao and is the record signing for most expesnive keeper in the world.

However, he has the worst save percentage in PL history and has conceded 8% of Chelsea’s total goals.
Now the season is completely over for Frank Lampard’s Chelsea he can now focus on the rebuild and improve for the next season.

He has already made two world class signings for the club bringing in Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech. 🇩🇪 🇲🇦
These players when interviewed said that Frank Lampard was a huge reason as to why they joined the club due to his hugely successful playing- career showing the pull power he has...

Another player pushing for a move because of Frank is German wonder kid, Kai Havertz! 🇩🇪
At the moment we only see an improvement on the attack but with the pull power Frank Lampard is capable of, we are very excited to see what players he brings to Stamford Bridge to improve the defence.

Names like Chilwell, Reguilon, Tagliafico and Gimenez all linked to Chelsea!
After Frank’s great season at Chelsea securing a UCL spot despite the major problems and responsibilities he took on when accepting the job, he has rightfully earned himself a nomination for Manager Of The Season! 🏆

Only 4 managers are nominated for this award!
Overall, there are definitely some improvements to make but it’s been a fantastic season for Frank who has beaten the odds and secured UCL!

He deserves a lot more respect from fans from all clubs and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Super Frankie Lampard!💙
