This pandemic has really shone a light on how abelist society is. For example being able to work remotely during covid-19 however a disabled worker who is able to complete the work but would only be able to remotely outside of the epidemic, won't be given the job. Need I go on?
People are more than willing during covid to help you collect your shopping and medications. Otherwise nobody offers unless they are paid.
I had more but my brain fog took over
Ooh disabled kids or high risk kids have been able to be schooled from home, proving its possible for them to learn in a familiar environment and a safe environment
Universities have been able to organise remote learning and lectures. However brick unis normally preach about the importance of physical attendance, therefore excluding those unable students from learning opportunities
Mental health teams etc have been able to set up remote meetings, so clients and patients can sit in the comfort of their own home and be supported, yet this is unheard of outside of the pandemic.
Also another point the DWP were able to award claimanrs an extra £80 a month which for a lot of people and families meant they were slightly above the poverty line. This decreased risk of poverty, yet the gov are taking this away in 2021
The DWP have been able to do over the phone assessments, showing that all of those disabled or unable claimants who have been forced to assessments was unnecessary and was not person centred as it did not consider the claimant at all.
