It was clearly a great set up by the Lakers as their action had multiple layers to it. But let& #39;s focus on the defense. Bol& #39;s on AD while Plumlee is defending Kuzma. Plumlee isn& #39;t committing hard on Kuzma and reasonably so. You need to protect the paint at all costs.

As the action starts to unfold, focus on Bol& #39;s eyes. They& #39;re clearly focused on the ball. Here& #39;s the thing; great defenders don& #39;t just focus on the one handling the ball, they& #39;re also capable of keeping an eye on potential hand-offs, drop passes, and things of that nature.

Kuzma receives the hand-off from AD and Plumlee smells danger. Clearly, he purposely did not chase Kuz to protect the paint against an AD post-up or a LeBron cut. His eyes scream, "Bol, CLOSEOUT ON KUZ!!"

But look at Bol& #39;s eyes. They& #39;re still focused on AD.

By the time Kuzma was about to pull-up for the shot, that was the only time Bol he stopped laying his eyes off AD.

Plumlee& #39;s face probably said, "Well, shit."

Kuzma gets a great look. Game over.

Granted, if the Kuzma hand-off was closed off, the Lakers could have had Anthony freakin& #39; Davis attacking or LeBron James cutting to the basket. Great stuff by Vogel.

Still, a learning experience for Bol. He& #39;s still very young and he has a ton of talent.

Good point too by @jobdln here; Bates-Diop should have switched on Kuz. Weakside was switching everything and it looked like that was the instruction from Malone.
