#JO1 (please RT!)

first, i want to mention that Japanese isn't my native language, but i am intermediate level & still studying! i've given a lot of thought to these messages, and i've actually said them to idols before (and have been noticed!), so imo these are great little messages to send :)

i also want to say a note about google translate/papago since i've noticed there are issues with them. google translate will often include the subjects in sentences, which can be unnecessary because they're usually inferred by the context. +

second, when you write "you" in your english sentences, digital translators almost always translate that into 「あなた」。 using that is a big no-no!! 「あなた」(anata) is usually reserved for people who are close (family, friends, s/o's), so using it with idols, +

who are essentially strangers, can be seen as rude. this idea also applies to another way of saying "you" in Japanese: 君/きみ/kimi. if you have to use a translator, i'd suggest having a japanese-speaking friend take a quick look to check the translation if they can!!

keeping the idea of respect in mind, Japanese also makes use of honorifics at the end of people's names: ～さん (-san), ～ちゃん (-chan), ～くん (-kun), etc.. Usually ～さん is reserved for strangers, but i've noticed ～くん is more commonly used even by fans for male idols.

along with that honorific, i would suggest using their last names. it's a bit more respectful, and i've seen that j-jams more often than not use the member's last names when addressing them. so, when you copy and paste their names into the messages in the thread, copy these:

also the ♡ are bullet points, not part of the sentences! i will be putting periods ( 。) after every sentence, but of course you can change that to exclamation points too! generally adding a few exclamation points or emojis will make your comments more natural sounding too~
