This is a real question, I& #39;m not trolling.

I& #39;m teaching a hybrid class this fall that meets once per week f2f, twice per week online. I& #39;m ambivalent but willing as far as health concerns go.

Here& #39;s what I don& #39;t get:

What am I supposed to do in class?

40 students in a lecture hall. They are supposed to keep 6& #39; distance, we are all supposed to be masked all the time. Cool.

But...

That means no small group work, because they can& #39;t get close, and they can& #39;t yell at each other bc this is a fucking global pandemic.

So I should lecture? In a mask? To a lecture hall? And this is somehow better than an online meeting?

PLUS...

I already know of several students who can& #39;t make the in-person session, and several that would prefer not to. What about them? I record... what... a bunch of students sitting far apart in a large room working on their laptops?

Wut.

I don& #39;t see any way in which this is better than intentional and deliberate online teaching. In fact, it seems much worse, and that& #39;s not even considering the health risks to me, my students, and all the workers we will endanger by commuting and being on campus.

Ugh.

Frustration aside, though: does anyone have any idea how to make f2f masked socially distanced classes work? Like, better than virtual would be right now? Because I really don& #39;t see it.
