Maybe Porochista can serve as a cautionary tale about how rising to fame by laying bare the depths of trauma and constantly reliving it is actually antithetical to the kind of growth trauma victims actually need
it's not a problem with having "victim mentality" - it's a business driven literature that assures ppl the best way to heal is to constantly publicly relive trauma. It's really sad & gross seeing someone believe trauma is the basis of insight
At the end of it, I can't blame her for this. I blame a media landscape that rewards disabled and chronically ill people by treating our lives as trauma parades and telling us we need to perform this. there's many great, radical #criplit authors who are healthy and driven
Update: I made this whole thread before I realized that PK got famous off writing a memoir about suffering from a non-existent disease. I do believe she's had a rough time w/ what could be chronic auto-immune problems, but holy shit now you're telling me her illness is fake too?!
