⚠️ WE NEED YOUR HELP⚠️

WE HAVE 5 DAYS TO SAVE ETHNIC STUDIES IN CALIFORNIA.

A THREAD.
AB 331 is a bill that mandates an Ethnic Studies course as a high school graduation requirement for all California students starting in the 2024-2025 academic year.
This bill is currently going to be voted on by the CA Senate Appropriations Committee in APPROXIMATELY FIVE DAYS. If we don’t pass it NOW, it may take YEARS TO BE VOTED ON AGAIN.
Much of history and the curriculum taught in high schools focuses on European and U.S. perspectives and narratives. The rich history of people of color is often minimized and not wholly discussed or taught in the classroom.
Ethnic Studies: The study of race, ethnicity, and Indigeneous communities and culture. This class focuses on the diverse histories and perspectives of people of color.
Currently, many students don’t have the opportunity to take an Ethnic Studies course until they reach college, which deprives them of a diverse education in high school. This course allows students of color to find representation in their education & reflect on their experiences.
