the harder they go in on this bizarrely recurring subject the more convinced I am trump failed the test and it’s become an fixation object of deep shame for him and he’s ordered this to be a hill they die on at all costs https://twitter.com/acyn/status/1293000714810081281
there really is no other rational reason for them to keep *willingly* dragging into spotlight the mental state of a man who just two days ago forgot what the coronavirus was called
this isn’t some nefarious biden plot! he’s not baiting them into REPEATEDLY discussing in great detail a basic mental acuity check when it was temporarily out of the news cycle for the fifth time
look this is a guy who can let 150,000 americans drop dead and write it off in his head without even a fleeting second thought as “it is what it is”, and yet he’s clearly so hung up on this test he forces surrogates to continue to go out and inject it back into the news cycle
you can’t get these people to utter a peep about five million infected americans and forcing the bulk of the working class into a hand-to-mouth economy but here’s another loyal stooge willing to babble on at great lengths about the president’s ability to ID an elephant?
this white house absolutely knows how to put out a kill order on subjects they don’t want their little vichy minions talking about and yet here we are again talking excruciating minutiae of a cognitive quiz. there’s only one reason that happens - he gives a lot of shits about it
here’s a fun game you can play: in speaking appearances, who is the last “new” character trump has introduced by name, of his own volition, unprompted, to his villain’s row? you know, not one from his ol’ reliable stable of recurring bad guys who have been go-to’s for years
go ahead, name the most recent one. I’ll wait.
I’ll submit to you that if the villain wasn’t on fox news a few years ago their existence to him is unknowable. he’s working from a stale database because the current cast of potential characters from current events are not accessible in his brain to villainize
sure he might have a day here or there where he saw a bad guy on teevee and briefly recognizes they’re a new “villain” for his routine -whitmer or wolf or something of the like- but they’re fleeting ghosts to him and he forgets they exist by the next day
this is why the act is so bizarrely dated and out-of-time. it’s not because he’s obsessed, it’s because those characters in his repotoire are the ones he can still nail by heart in his act. new faces and names? they don’t stick with him
furthermore you could really dig in on whether he’s even illustrated a coherent grasp of the passage of time and placing events in a logical calendar structure. does he ever describe specific events occurring in the past year with anything approaching precision?
he’s aware there’s a pandemic that trashed the economy but have you ever seen him nail down sequencing of events? or even something as silly as how many weeks ago he was at such-and-such a place talking to so-and-so a person? or is it all...garbled timeline reconstruction
the baseline he so low here! he’s always been bad at this shit. you wouldn’t even notice it! but specifically, have you observed him doing...any of those things that illustrate to the average functioning human brain that he’s *really* aware of any of these things beyond fumbling
he forgot john thune was a republican just a month after he was at an event with him in south dakota. I mean is anything even sticking? could he answer “sir where were you last saturday night and what did you do”?
