i do feel like we need to talk about how deep religious trauma can go its not just a “well the bible says not to judge so stop hating gay people” this narrative theyve created has been crafted for centuries and taught to children who cannot form arguments against it

i will suffer from guilt of being attracted to women for many more years if not my whole life. i grew up in southern baptist and evangelical churches and they are SMART. they know how to get in your head even when it feels so so wrong

they preach this idea that your actions dont earn your way to heaven but if you truly believe in god your actions will be perfect which no one can live up to. they will bring themselves “down to your level” and say they “struggle with sin as well” just to gain your trust.

i hope more people who grew up in the church can start talking about how harmful the teachings can be to young lgbt kids and how hard it it to deal with religious guilt even for those who dont believe anymore

also this thread is totally about christianity and i have no say in how other lgbt people’s experiences may be affected by other religions

religious beliefs or spirituality are very good for so many people even christianity so i dont intend to shame anyone for that but talking about how groups of people associated with christianity have hurt lgbt youth is so important to me
