Still chewing on this bit from " #Science of #Racism" during #APA2020 when @dralfiee explained her concepts of love and light in the context of culturally relevant science.
She said that loving yourself means holding unconditional regard for yourself - this means radically accepting your flaws and embracing your humanity. And doing this for yourself means you can better do this for others.
Now, either @dralfiee said, or the Spirit told me she said, that as much as racism is a failing of unconditional regard for others, it is also a reflection of lack of unconditional love for oneself.
I ran this by my choir director, who is as much of a therapist as any black auntie is, and she said it made sense because people who are racist "make other people feel worse so they can feel good about themselves."
The foundations of slavery placed enmity between races so whites avoid the fear of poverty. The Amy Coopers and Candice Owenses of the world vilify the Christian Coopers and George Floyds, because they can& #39;t accept the "criminal" parts of themselves.
Bringing everyone into the fold of humanity, on the other hand, involves truly valuing ALL as members of our human family - a concept that is well familiar to the black collective. It also means valuing yourself for what you bring to the table, warts and all.
