2/ @BUSlNESSBARISTA and I started @morningbrew in 2015. But it was only a side project.

I took an internship at an investment bank after my junior year and had full intention of returning there after college.

I thought I'd spend 2 years in banking and go work in private equity.

3 weeks into the internship and I was HATING my life.

Create a model, copy it into PowerPoint. Create a model, copy it into PowerPoint. Over. And. Over. And. Over. Again. 100 hours a week.

I was absolutely miserable.

4/ It was July 4th weekend and I was working on a merger of 2 companies that I couldn't care less about.

I had pulled multiple all-nighters that week, and was exhausted.

On July 3rd, all of my friends were together and I was in the office working on that deal.

5/ As the only person in the office on the 3rd, I ordered Chinese food alone as I pondered my life decisions that brought me to that point.

I threw away my food and saw 2 fortune cookies in the bag.

6/I never open my fortune cookies, but decided I am going to open one of the two fortune cookies, and it will decide my life's destiny.

Because who wouldn't want to put their life in the hands of a message in a cookie?

7/ I open up the cookie that I didn't choose to see what would have been my fate had I chosen that cookie.

It states "A chance meeting opens new doors to success and friendship".

Interesting but not super useful.

8/ I then open the fortune cookie I chose, which read this:

9/ I'm not exactly a man of belief, but that is all I needed as a sign that banking was not for me.

15 minutes later I texted Alex to meet up to discuss what it would take to go full- time on Morning Brew

And that is how I decided to go FT on the Brew.
