you have to understand where the madoka franchise is at by the time magia record rolls out. theres the success and shock of rebellion, whose ending feels stilted because it wasnt intended to go the way it went - the end was rewritten to allow the possibility of more content. but-

years go by and we get nothing. the concept movie trailer comes out (some people say this was an april fools prank), and a continuation of the main storyline seems far away. i dont know why they invested money in getting magireco off the ground instead of a rebellion sequel,

maybe to fund future main story content? who knows, the gacha brings in a lot of money! but why should we give a shit about a side story when we still dont know whats going on with madoka and homura? whats gonna happen? will they fight, will madoka kill homura, will they be GAY?

so we need a reason to have loyal madoka fans download a game and spend money on it, and a lot of said fans are holding out on more madohomu in the future. so lets make the main two characters look like a remixed madohomu. doesnt matter if they arent romantically involved.

so basically, f4samurai clowned skeptics into downloading and spending money on magia record by luring them with this pseudo-madohomu ship that doesnt go much further than just aesthetics. they arent going to get together. you just got tricked into spending money. and it worked!

but hey its all right, im much more invested in magireco now than i ever will be in a rebellion sequel. i mean, it would be nice to wrap up the storyline. but its been years now, so i cant say i care either way!
