A quick thing I wanted to note about Dabo after today’s Clemson calls: Darien Rencher had a great quote about “normalizing changing our minds.” Like, it’s OK to grow and learn and evolve. Which gets to Dabo... (cont)
Dabo hasn’t always been super progressive on player compensation, and he's had his reasons. But it's VERY clear he's listening and learning, and his opinion has evolved a lot. It's probably not where some folks want it to be, but the needle has moved.
Dabo also deserves tons of credit for not just empowering his players to do things like the #WeAreUnited movement, but giving them the training and support to do it well and then sticking HIS SUPERSTAR QB in front of a camera to talk about it.
Some folks won't be happy until Dabo refuses a salary and announces the money should all go to players. That's fine. But the progress with his is EXACTLY what the "pay the players" movement should be cheering on. What he said in 2016 matters far less than what he believes today.
I’ll probably be called a Dabo apologist, which will go nicely alongside my “Dabo Haters Club” card (10% discount at all Tallahassee Whataburger locations!) but point of being progressive is progress… and it’s happening.
