Police have been less than helpful

Alan Camilo Fajardo is a 13 year old boy who has been missing for over a week from Gresham, Oregon.

He and his mom sought asylum in the US after his cousin was gang raped and dismembered - the murderers were after his mom and they narrowly escaped. Heā€™s originally from El Salvador, and obtained US citizenship just over a year ago.

Alan had been struggling to acclimate

Teen years are hard. Imagine living in fear for years, while city hopping, your mom almost being kidnapped to by human traffickers.

Obtaining citizenship took time. Now imagine the culture shock. Moving to a new city, hell a new country. Having to learn a whole new language
4/

Living in a poor district. Going to a school that already had a bad reputation education wise, and feeling like a fish out of water. Having to learn English while navigating the usual teen problems like bullying.

Struggling to adapt. Rebelling
5/

His dad pulled him out of school, & had him home schooled. Found a program at the local library. He was doing so much better away from trouble, with focused learning. He picked up English faster.

But being seperated from others, and feeling so much pressure from his parents-
6/

Aside from learning a new language and culture, his Dad was stranger.

He had lived his whole life in a different country before his mom reached out to his biological dad about the danger they were in, and he went to save them (they were not together at the time)
7/

So navigating a new life and trying but failing to fit in.

His parents had a new child, and more and more he felt like a misfit. He could never be perfect enough, and continually disappointed his parents. Harsh words were said, and he ran away.

His mom and dad are living in fear and regret. They are desperate for his safe return. They have gone on and on about ways they can do better, give him more love and attention, be more patient, listen.

They just want him home

But the system is against them.
9/

The police have been heartless and dissmissive. When Samir, Alanā€™s dad, received a tip that Alan was spotted on a property where homeless people hang out - he called the police and the officer refused to help.
10/

He told Alanā€™s dad that Alan was one of countless missing. A needle in a haystack. What did he expect him to do?

Frustrated he said to HELP. Do SOMETHING. And the officer went on to complain about HIS woes, and the protests, and how they wanted to defund them.
11/

Somehow refusing to help find this missing child was just his way of being a vindictive šŸ·

No one seemed to want to help. His broken English leading to more discrimination and hatefulness.

Tri-Met in Oregon repeatedly TORE DOWN Alanā€™s missing flyers.
12/

It felt like everyone was working against them to find their child - making it more difficult vs helping.

To the point where I - a literal stranger living several states away - placed a call to get more information, and asked if he prefer we spoke in Spanish ā€”-
13/

His dad broke down. His dad cried.

He spent damn near 3 hours sharing Alanā€™s life story with me.

That desperate for someone to listen. For someone to care.

He wants his child back. Heā€™s so desperate.
14/

I feel like I know this child. This child could be mine. He could be yours.

Please help find this child. His mom & dad love him dearly, & miss him so much. They want him home safe.

Anyone in Gresham area willing to help??

At the very least PLEASE do not stop sharing šŸ™šŸ¼
