Very bored waiting for my friend zoom night to start at 8:30 so I’m going to rate every 30 Rock Guest Star
Just gonna go in chronological order so let’s start with Dean Winters as Liz’s “fiscally liberal socially conservative” ex boyfriend Dennis. Winters is so fucking funny and I wish he wasn’t just mayhem guy now. 10/10
Chris Parnell as Dr Spaceman is one of the funniest parts of the entire series. Everything he says sends me and the way no one ever questions him adds to the air of surreality that makes 30 Rock so good. 40/10
Tracy Does Conan is one of my fave episodes of season 1. Conan’s reoccurring appearances are always funny especially with Liz. 8/10
LL Cool J as Ridikolus versus Kenneth the Page is a god tier 30 Rock scene. I am always thinking about “What’s your game?” “Boggle!” 9/10
Wayne Brady as the incredibly boring Steven Black is so good. I love when he described Star Wars as “the fantasy movie with the monsters”. 9/10
Unfortunately the show underutilized the incredible Nathan Lane. Kind of a forgettable role. 4/10
Will Arnett as Jack’s gay rival Devin Banks is low key one of my fave characters on the show. He delivers an amazing and unhinged performance here. 9/10
Sean Hayes is unrecognizable as Kenneth’s cousin Jesse and his commitment to the bit in this episode is so admirable. 8/10
Elaine Stritch (RIP queen) as Jack’s mom is a personal fave of mine. She’s absolutely hilarious and her relationship with Jack is very well written. 10/10
I adore Emily Mortimer and she is so good as the incredibly annoying Phoebe. “My bones” and “I don’t know if we’ve met, I’m Phoebe” are great reocurring gags. 8/10
Rip Torn (RIP king) as Don Geiss is such an integral character in the early seasons. I love when he’s in a coma and Jack is reading books about capitalism to him. 8/10
Seinfeldvision is a great episode not because of Seinfeld but because of how they use Seinfeld. Jack splicing him into different NBC shows using old Seinfeld show footage is one of the funniest bits in season 2. 7/10
Steve Buscemi is simply iconic as Jack’s PI Lenny Wosniak. This is the meme but he has tons of other funny lines. 12/10
Now I am biased as a huge Star Wars fan but Carrie Fisher as Rosemary, the extremely politically incorrect and unstable writer, was easily one of the funniest guests the show ever had. 20/10
David Schwimmer as “Greenzo”, the corporate NBC Earth Day mascot who slowly becomes radicalized against NBC is one of my favorite minor 30 Rock characters. This episode has some of the best politics of the entire show and expertly takes apart corporate greenwashing. 14/10
Edie Falco as Vermont Congresswoman Celeste Cunningham is a) super hot and b) a really funny deconstruction of liberals willing to sacrifice their supposed values for the sake of their own interests. 8/10
All I’m going to say about Fred Armisen as Raheem is that I love episodes that expose how much of a piece of shit Liz is. My man just wanted to participate in The Amazing Race. 10/10
All James Carville does as a guest star is walk around giving random people advice while saying “Cajun style!” and it works 9/10
Andy Richter as Liz’s brother Mitch who thinks it’s the 1980s because of a ski accident is already a great character in concept but Andy Richter really commits and it’s so funny 9/10
Rob Huebel as host of MILF Island just kills me. “We no longer want to tap that” 10/10
Gladys Knight only shows up for like 2 seconds but it’s a great 2 seconds 8/10
Tim Conway (RIP king) as Bucky Bright is one of the single funniest minor 30 Rock characters. He’s basically just playing Joe Biden. 15/10
Lol I forgot Floyd. Easily the most boring of all Liz’s boyfriends. I love Jason Sudeikis but he doesn’t really have much to do here. 5/10
I fuckin love Paul Scheer. He’s great as Kenneth’s page nemesis Donny. 8/10
Marceline Hugot is an incredible character actress and her role as Kathy Geiss makes me lose it. All her scenes with Will Arnett are just đź‘Śđź‘Ś 20/10
another absolute favorite of mine. Matthew Broderick as Bush admin member Cooter Berger. “The ceiling appears to be leaking” “No it’s not. We’ve looked into it and it’s not” and “oooh pens” 20/10
Oprah has a really funny cameo that you can no longer watch because this is also the episode where Jenna does blackface. The plot twist in this episode is great. 9/10
Jennifer Aniston is great as Crazy Claire. It’s always great when famous people do unflattering 30 Rock cameos. But she’s overshadowed by the Cast of Night Court 8/10
I admire so deeply the cast of Night Court’s willingness to make fun of their show and themselves in this episode. 10/10
Tennis Legend John McEnroe is inexplicably in four episodes of 30 Rock. And he’s fucking hilarious. 15/10
Steve Martin as Gavin Volure, an eccentric billionaire with a secret is another all timer. He miscounted the men! 20/10
Sherri Shephard as Angie Jordan is easily one of the most quotable 30 Rock characters. “People like the way I say ham”. 25/10
Salma Hayek is so funny as Elisa, who was way too good for Jack 8/10
Peter Dinklage was a great guest star and another great example of a character who’s here to show us how much Liz sucks. I love characters who call her out for her bullshit. 9/10
Jon Hamm as ultimate himbo Dr Drew Baird is one of my favorite guys Liz dates. Also lol at related searches to “Jon Hamm 30 rock” 15/10
John Lithgow as John Lithgow in an episode filled with Harry and the Hendersons references is a great short cameo. 9/10
Patti Lupone is obviously great as Frank’s mom, even if they absolutely underutilize her 7/10
Calvin Klein has a brief cameo as himself in season 3! According to Reddit his daughter is a producer on the show. The Bubble is a great episode so 8/10
Adam West (RIP king) as himself is so wonderful. What a great voice. 9/10
Little Jenna 30/10
Alan Alda as Professor Milton Greene! Alda is the goat and there’s some really funny MASH references made here. I would like to read his Jimmy Carter biography. 10/10
Kidney Now is a great episode. Elvis Costello is a good sport. 9/10
Clay Aiken is really funny in this episode. The back and forth with him and Elvis Costello is hilarious. 10/10
Mary J. Blige is 10/10 for her extremely straight delivery of this line alone
Really funny blink and you miss it Donald Glover cameo! He also plays Young Tracy later on in the series 13/10 ily king
Sheryl Crow and Adam Levine are both surprisingly hilarious in this episode! Aloo! Please to meet! 12/10
Gonna include all the Kidney Now guest stars in one post. Standouts include Cindi Lauper, Wyclef and the Beastie Boys 12/10 hilarious choices and they all do a great job
Paula Pell as Paula Hornberger is amazing. Liz should’ve explored this offer. 12/10
Real Life Porn Star Savana Samson played Porn Liz in the episode where Tracy makes a porno about Liz’s life. One of the funniest episodes of the entire show. “This is disgusting shut it down” 20/10
Jeff Dunham played Bubba J the ventriloquist in an episode that unpacks the shitty way both liberals and conservatives regard people from the South and also has one of the funnier product placement moments in the series. 15/10
The Betty White cameo was used a little too much in the early 2000s but 30 Rock managed to make it pretty funny. 10/10
Scorsese, Walken and Gottfried actually all play an actor doing an impression of their voice in this episode. They all nail it. 13/10
Famed NBC News anchor Brian Williams is way funnier on 30 Rock than he has any right to be. He appears a bunch of times throughout the series and he plays this weird alternate universe version of himself incredibly well. 17/10
Cheyenne Jackson was a fun addition to the show for a while! He seems like a chill dude 9/10
Padma Lakshmi, inventor of the sandwich bag, plays a really funny version of herself in season 4. Definitely one of the stronger cases of a celebrity playing a ridiculous version of themselves on this show. 17/10
As someone studying environmental law and policy I have many criticisms of Al Gore. That being said, his appearances on 30 Rock are fantastic. 20/10
Julianne Moore as Nancy Donovan blows my mind. Her Boston accent is just the worst thing I’ve ever heard. Absolutely horrific. 15/10
A lot of famous people play weird versions of themselves on 30 Rock. Perhaps none so hilariously as James Franco. 30/10
