In a past post, I attributed my understanding of how to grow and make connections on Twitter to @mkobach and @david_perell.

Now, they recently dropped an episode on all things social media marketing on David's North Star Podcast.

- A Thread of My Takeaways -
1/ The Unexpected Best Brand at Social Media: @CashApp

- Normally you do not associate engaging social media with finance.
- Strategy is simple, instead of buying ads, they simply give away money.
- Giveaways work, you are creating happiness and surprise for people.
2/ @CashApp cont.

- For the same amount of money given away, you build a strong community and more impressions than by using ads.
- You capitalize on organic growth, people will rapidly share your product.
3/ How do you quantify success on social media?

- Social media is undervalued by the market.
- Difficult to quantify but seems easy to quantify. Like and retweets can be quantified, but how do we know if that increased sales?
4/ Do ads have an effect?

- Just because an ad did not move you does not mean other's feel the same.
- The statement that "ads don't affect me," is false, you may not notice it but they are changing the way that you think.
- They will unconsciously change what you crave.
5/ Arby's Example

- You may have never eaten Arby's before but after seeing their ads on TV and on Twitter, in the middle of a road trip if you see them on the side of the road you will pull over.

- Marketers know 20 different exposures will lead to a sale.
6/ Rolex Example

- For Rolex, their ads work even if there are no direct sales conversion.

- Their ads build the premium idea around their brand.

- The fundamental ideal that we buy things for others, if there were no other humans, would anyone buy Rolex's?
7/ @mkobach most successful Tweets.

- @fast they have combined giving things away, with having a fun, interactive, and tagging potential customers.

- We want brands to know about us, so we get people to tag brands and turn their name into Emoji for people to guess and tag.
8/ Twitter superpowers

- "Twitter is the cheat code to life"

- Talk to like-minded people by finding or building your own communities on the internet.

- Develop friendships and professional relationships

- People root for you after they talk to you on Twitter
9/ How he found @fast?

- Fast makes all the logins and difficulties of payment obsolete. And Fast actually reached out to @mkobach.

- It started as a casual two-way conversation where both sides were asking questions. Shows how casual Twitter can make things
10/ Continued.

- @fast then dropped the question of whether he wanted to join.

- Replied with some questions and soon an offer was complete.
