In case you need your faith in humanity restored, here is today’s act of heroism from the explosion in NW Baltimore
Dean Jones, 36, heard the boom from his house as he was sipping water on his back porch like he does every morning.

Then he saw the flume of smoke and took off running — without shoes —to try and help.
Jones ran into Antoinetta Parrish in the alley. She too ran from her house to help.
The two of them started yelling “cry out if you need help!”

Eventually they heard a woman yelling “help” but it was muffled because of all the rubble and debris.
Jones and Parrish started an assembly line with other people, clearing “slabs of the house.”

Eventually they found an older woman buried nearly five feet below the rubble.

They said she only had a few scratches.
One of the other people helping in the assembly line was Yseem Hammett.

He’s 22 and was shot during a robbery attempt in February and is still on crutches.
When Hammett heard the boom, he threw on slides and ditched the crutches, sprinting to help out however he could.

He said the only thing he kept thinking about was “what if it had been me and my grandfather.” He said he would want people searching for them.
They all said the same thing.

They hope they never ever see something like this again. And that they aren’t heroes. They only did what they would’ve wanted if it was them stuck.
