Number ONE reason why I don't want to live in the ocean: BARNACLES.
They live on EVERYTHING! Here are some called Anelasma THAT ONLY LIVE ON SHARKS. There are whale barnacles, dolphin barnacles, fish barnacles. TOO MANY BARNACLES...

Shark barnacles, I kid you not, "retard
the development of gonads in infected squaloid sharks." AKA effectively CASTRATE SHARKS THEY'RE ATTACHED TO. Like, "no growing up for you. your body is MINE"

And don't get me started on DOLPHIN BARNACLES! LOOK AT THESE THINGS! Just hanging there like little bits of goo! GAHHH! AND they punch holes in the dolphin's skin: NO!

Look at all these dangly barnacles just hanging out of the backs of these dolphins! They look so obnoxious!

I mean, have you ever thought about whales as just giant barnacle islands. Because that's kind of what's happening and I would not be cool with that!

THERE ARE EVEN TURTLE BARNACLES. Whole species of barnacles that only live on turtles. Barnacles, you see, actually run everything. The ocean is actually just a bunch of stuff barnacles can live on.

Realistic mermaids would have barnacles. It's inevitable. And that's why being a real mermaid wouldn't be that fun. Because if there's a place on your body you cannot reach, a barnacle will grow there. Jerks.

(Also: apologies. I feel like this thread should've had a content warning. As a marine biologist, I've learned to live with the reality that is BARNACLES, I've become numb to their terror. BUT, if you're into it, here is the worst barnacle of them all...) https://jellybiologist.com/2018/10/31/this-may-be-the-oceans-most-horrifying-monster-and-youve-probably-never-heard-of-it/
And after that, here is a thread of beautiful ocean animals with ZERO scary things. https://twitter.com/RebeccaRHelm/status/1248787599495397377
