i actually really dislike the phrase “comfort characters” they’re just my favorites i’m not emotionally dependent on them
i think concepts like this are what leads to erratic behavior from other fandom people in regards to characters...
like obviously your favs can affect you emotionally and thats good! having an emotional connection to something makes it important to you and that’s what fiction is for but it’s probably not a good idea to grab on to the concept of using it as an emotional crutch. thats different
that inevitably leads to people taking offense when others use “their comfort character” in ways they dislike which is. uh. oof.
you have no level of ownership over a fictional character you did not create no matter what kind of bond you’ve forged in your head, my dudes.
you can be in a bad place and use something comforting to help you while you’re down, but i don’t think it’s healthy to give a fictional entity that much power over you. by assigning yourself a “comfort character” it’s like you’re releasing yourself from emotional responsibility
i love my favs REAL HARD but i don’t think giving them false agency is the right way to go please be responsible for yourselves.
