Laying Some of my COVID cards on the table: given what we know of the virus, the (limited) freedoms we have been granted, and the commands of Christ to gather to worship, I believe that churches in Alberta who are not gathering in person are in violation of God’s will.
there may be good reasons for indivuals or families not to gather in person. But there is no reason for churches to hold off and keep doing digital “church” until some arbitrary date in the fall. Repent and obey the Word. Pastors, lead here. Don’t delegate to subcommittees.
Of course, Each person must honestly assess their own risk profile based on a reasonable assessment of the data to date. Knowing that The virus is much less deadly and contagious than initially predicted must be taken into consideration.
I am seeing more that “conscience and COVID” is being twisted by many (especially the “idle”) in the church and used as the trump card for inaction, thereby “justifying” convenience Christianity (aka laziness). Conscience matters, but it doesn’t erase clear commands of Christ.
So, if you are healthy and under 65 or 70 years of age, get off the couch and go to church this Sunday. Fellowship, be served and serve your brothers and sisters by encouraging them in the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
