GUADALCANAL CAMPAIGN

Today, we take the opportunity to honor and remember those who fought in the Guadalcanal Campaign.
The Guadalcanal Campaign in 1942 was the first major American Pacific campaign in World War II and was the first time the 1st Marine Division conducted combat operations as a division. The campaign also earned the Division its first Presidential Unit Citation (PUC).
The red numeral one in the middle of the 1st Marine Division insignia also denotes the division's first action on Guadalcanal.

The battle would cost the division 650 killed in action and 1,278 wounded in action.
The 1st Marine Division fought as a whole in the Guadalcanal Campaign from 7 August 1942 until they were relieved on 9 December 1942.

Semper Fidelis, Marines.
