You’re right @DrJeffBearden, you can’t make everyone happy. Honestly, that shouldn’t be a priority over the health & safety of staff & students. This mother has a clear problem with the language you’ve chosen. You’ll see more evidence of this.

I mean, she has a point. You said yourself that you believe masks help minimize the spread, @DrJeffBearden. The mistake you’ve made is believing others will follow your example. Most of the mask wearers will be at home, mostly because of folks like this.

As you know, a parent who spoke at the BOE meeting on 7/21/20, Ms. Tatum, demanded a no tolerance policy with regard to bullying, citing specific concerns that her senior in HS will be bullied for choosing not to wear a mask (7:40 mark if video)

Your decisions appear to be creating an unhealthy imbalance of power and respect, metaphorically hand cuffing teachers & administrators, subjecting them to bullying by those who refuse to wear masks.

In reference to the above linked BOE video, the second speaker presents very valid concerns (5:00 mark). Her grandchild would benefit from a 504 exemption & be protected by discrimination.

Furthermore, the second speaker & her grandson represent the at risk families who will be out in the cold when schools inevitably shut down again.

More examples of dire need for public health education. Not to mention, many can’t just “stay home”, as every class isn’t offered virtually. Plus, not all families have the luxury. The shaming is clearly not one sided.

I could spend all day finding hundreds of additional comments from parents all around the district. I’ve spent enough time. I have asked very specific questions and have received no answers. Please do the right thing. You see how this is working out in neighboring districts.

Schools that have opened are already closing. 2 days of deep cleaning is wasted time, money & effort when countless asymptomatic carriers walk right back through those doors.

Please do what is best for our teachers, kids & community. Mandate masks, at the very least, & adopt a hybrid plan that will truly limit class sizes. We are a disaster waiting to happen.
