Emasculating Hinduism: A thread explaining how a generation lost and found itself. #Tweet4Bharat
For a long time my generation (80’s child) has been a product of the concerted efforts by Indian news and entertainment industry that so far used Hinduism only to amuse, humiliate and punish Hindus. Their hegemony over our education system can’t be overstated. 1/15
Even in a vedic school, we were taught to laugh away ‘आठ भुजाओं वाली औरत’. Christian prayers were liberally recited. Vedas were taught as an antidote to idol worship. We were fined ₹1 for each Hindi word spoken. 2/15
English education subsequently ensured that my day would begin with reading The Hindu and Indian Express, and ended with The Buck Stops Here on NDTV. Sagarika, Barkha, Rajdeep, Dua and Thapar etc. menaced many a young minds by sowing the seeds of anglophilia or hinduphobia. 3/15
As for Bollywood, consider the movie Rockstar. Written and directed by a Muslim. This Ranbir starrer brazenly reduced Mata ka jagraata to a joke, and concluded that Kun Faya Kun was the way forward if you’re a serious seeker. Rahman gave the background score. 4/15
Even Aamir Khan starrer Lagaan, used saguna Radha-Krishna to cover the romance angle in the movie, but to invoke the divine amid distress nirguna bhajan was subtly placed. I won’t even go into PK, OMG etc. 5/15
I have observed many Hindustani classical artists too choosing nirguna bhajans over saguna just to please the extreme left fundamentalists sitting at the helm. We are all too aware of what the makers of Ramayan had to go through too. 6/15
Basically, we are kept embroiled in issues where Hinduism must constantly prove its existence, while beliefs whose prophets openly advocate execution of other faiths are not troubled with this much needed quest for introspection. 7/15
The invaders that enslaved us for over a millennium still hold a massive power over our imagination. The irony of numerous debates be it Karwa Chauth, Holi, Diwali, Triple Talaq etc. is not lost on most Hindus who cannot unsee the absurdity anymore. 8/15
Speaking of cow slaughter, I can easily recall an article by Parveen Swami, then with The Hindu, who tried to rationally analyse if sexual intercourse with animals is really a crime after all. No points for guessing what he concluded. 9/15
Had it not been for Radha Rajan’s razor sharp scrutinisation of intellectual terrorism, I wouldn’t ever have discovered the unsavoury truth of how what I feel is liberation is actually my imprisonment orchestrated minutely by the a streak of intellectual fundamentalism. 10/15
The very physical and emotional reinvigoration from chanting Jai Shri Ram, Har Har Mahadev, Jai Bhavani, Bharat Mata ki Jai, can make me see why Smt. Rajan decried the absence of Kshatriyata among Hindus. 11/15
Even though it’s done with the humble sentiment of undoing the injustice meted out to us, it sends the shivers down the spine of self-appointed liberals who bargained their several generations to establish an extreme western ideology in Bharat i.e. India. 12/15
The western press, largely controlled by the Murdoch empire or communists, still can’t fathom what Narendra Modi means to the Hindus of the world. They still see him as a bit of a Slumdog Millionaire, and in this vanity also lies their increasing irrelevance. 13/15
I’d say Modi is not the cause but only a symptom of what we can achieve together. We don’t need fundamentalism borrowed from western ideologies, but the true discovery of our own glorious history and reinstating our icons, such that their legend feeds even our subconscious. 14/15
It’s time for now to give nirguna (great as it is) a break and embrace saguna Ram, Krishna, Shiva, Durga and Kali. In their revered forms and chants is an unfailing promise that the kshatriya spirit in each one of us finds its resurrection to protect and preserve our ethos. 15/15
