Someone in my university IT department just sent an email about a data access outage, to a list that no one seems to know existed, that appears to have thousands of people on it. The list has replies enabled. #replyallpocalypse
So far, ~20 over a dozen reply all's asking what the message is about + about the same number of "this emailed could not be delivered" bot replies. It's been 15 minutes.
It is now accelerating. I fear exponential growth based on the replies to the reply all's.
Major bonus points to the person who simply sent "Just here replying all".
The "Please STOP replying all!" messages have started.
Best guess at this point is that this is at least all university employees (including TAs). Could be students as well based on the rate.
I'm literally getting an email every few seconds at this point. It is quite spectacular.
Ooh, folks are adding memes now! (just delivered)
Someone just successfully sent this to the list:

"I repeat: this is a test."

...from an anonymous email account not associated with any university.
