I got the chance to sit down and speak with @AntonioGibson14 last week about a variety of topics last week. Here are some highlights from our conversation.
Gibson said this offseason that one of the things he was most excited about was being on the same field as Adrian Peterson. He said it's motivating to see Peterson out there at age 35 winning reps. And he's always willing to offer a few pointers to Gibson whenever possible.
There have been a lot of questions about how Gibson will fit in Scott Turner's offense. Gibson sees himself as "just a guy they can use no matter where they need me." He can run, he can catch passes and he even said he could line up at tight end and block if necessary.
Gibson has been moving back and forth between the wide receivers and running backs so far. All the players have been helpful. If they see something wrong, they critique it. That's not a bad thing, Gibson said, and he's enjoyed having so many players critique his game.
Gibson expounded a little more on working with Peterson, most notably asking questions. Peterson is entering his 14th season, and he's still eager to learn from his coaches.
Gibson's first impressions of @dh_simba7 were that he is "definitely a leader." He's calm, cool, collected and gets everyone where they need to be. If he has a mistake, which Gibson said is "rare," he's quick to correct it.
Gibson said he has spent most of his time with the running backs during virtual meetings and the acclimation period of training camp. He'll catch a few routes, get the work he needs from the receivers and then continues his work with the RBs.
It hasn't been tough on Gibson to learn the responsibilities for two positions, but he did say he has to learn how switch between them. He had to do the same thing at Memphis, and he said it helps him learn the playbook better. "It's worth it in the long run."
Washington has an RB group that can do a little of everything. Gibson is glad to be a part of that, because he can learn from those different skillsets and apply them to his own. It's the same with receiver. He said the competition among both positions will help everyone.
. @AntonioGibson14 ran a 4.39 at the Combine.

Last year, @TheTerry_25 ran a 4.35.

So who would win in a race? That's an easy answer for Gibson: "I'm always going with me."

We have to set this up.
Some things that have stood out to Gibson about McLaurin: "He goes into his routes and he doesn't think about it too much." He told Gibson don't think too much about your routes. That's what lets you gain speed.
Gibson said it has been important to learn how to adjust during an unconventional offseason. It took some time to get used to the virtual meetings at first, but that passed relatively quickly. Gibson said he's used to making quick adjustments, though, so it hasn't been difficult.
Gibson ended the interview by talking about WRs coach Jim Hostler. When he wants something done, he wants it done his way. He's been critiquing Gibson a lot, but Gibson likes that because he's getting help on the smaller details of his skillset. He loves coaches like that.
Final thoughts from my talk with Gibson: he sounds eager to help out on offense, no matter what he's doing. He's willing to learn and will make the extra effort to improve himself. I'll have a story going through more of what he said later this week.
