So what is swing trading?

This type of trading aims to catch both short and long term gains in a stock

This occurs over a range of a few days to a few months

You might be thinking

"Ok that's great, but how will it help if I can't watch the markets?"

Automation is your best friend

I use what's known as the "stop" order

Let's say I'm looking to buy Apple at $450

I would use a stop "buy" order that would automatically buy my shares at $450...

Not every trade will go your way though

Setting a stop "sell" order is important

This order will automatically sell at the price you set it at...

This allows you to know the risk you're taking in the trade before buying

You might now be asking how/where to sell at a profit

Again, you can automate this

I use limit "sell" orders when a stock reaches my sell target (I don't sell it all when it hits my target)

You can determine your sell target easily

Remember how I said you could find the risk you'd take in a trade before buying?

You can do this with a simple formula:

Entry point - exit point (in case trade doesn't work) = Risk per share

Ideally you want to make $5 for every $1 risked

Now you'd want do this:

Risk per share x 5 = Target price

This target will take time to achieve in most cases

The market can also be a bit volatile at times

Here's what you'll do next...

Sell a portion of your shares (about 20-25%) once you have made $2 for every $1 risked

Doing this allows you to:

- Lock in profits
- Reduce emotional exposure

You'll be better suited to experience a pullback (trust me this matters a lot)

Simple enough right?
