Who teaches Modern European History at @CamHistory?

Back in 2018 we ran a series of @MEHcambridge academic staff profiles that proved rather popular, so with a few new faces and an increased Twitter presence, we decided it's time to run it again! 🙌
Every week day we'll post a little about one of our members (we'll start alphabetically!) on this thread until we get through the whole MEH Subject Group.

🥁🥁🥁 Without further ado, here's the @MEHcambridge line up!
1) @ArthurAsseraf joined @CamHistory in 2017 as Lecturer in the History of France and the Francophone World and is a Fellow of @Pembroke1347.

He's convened the MEH Research Seminar, and at the MPhil level teaches 'The Mediterranean World'.
For undergrads, he's convened Paper 18 - European History since 1890 and teaches the Themes and Sources option 'Fighting for Algeria, Fighting for France' in addition to lecturing for Paper 17 - on 19th century Europe, and Paper 23 - 20th century World History
An expert on modern France, North Africa, and the Mediterranean, with particular interests in the history of colonialism and information, @ArthurAsseraf's first book, 'Electric News in Colonial Algeria', was published with @OUPHistory last year.

His current research revolves around two projects: the relationship between race and rumour in Fifth Republic France, and a microhistory of an Algerian man in the 19th century who manipulated information to generate a large-scale scandal. Exciting stuff!

2) Hanno Balz is the @DAADCamHub Lecturer in Modern European History, and is a Fellow of @TrinityHallCamb.

He convenes the @MEHcambridge MPhil and teaches on @CamHistory's Paper 18 and Historical Argument and Practice, as well as @GermanCambridge's German Text and Culture.
His publications include, 'Von #Terroristen, Sympathisanten und dem starken Staat. Die öffentliche Debatte über die #RAF in den 70er Jahren ( @CampusVerlag)' and '"All We Ever Wanted...": Eine Kulturgeschichte europäischer #Protestbewegungen der 1980er Jahre ( @KarlDietzBerlin)'.
Hanno's current research focusses on two themes: the history of anti- #communism in #Germany, and the history of the colour #red & the symbolism of the red flag, which traces the politicisation of that colour - a fascinating and wide-ranging approach! 🟥🔴💯🍎❤️
