Every week day we'll post a little about one of our members (we'll start alphabetically!) on this thread until we get through the whole MEH Subject Group.


Without further ado, here's the @MEHcambridge line up!



1) @ArthurAsseraf joined @CamHistory in 2017 as Lecturer in the History of France and the Francophone World and is a Fellow of @Pembroke1347.
He's convened the MEH Research Seminar, and at the MPhil level teaches 'The Mediterranean World'.

For undergrads, he's convened Paper 18 - European History since 1890 and teaches the Themes and Sources option 'Fighting for Algeria, Fighting for France' in addition to lecturing for Paper 17 - on 19th century Europe, and Paper 23 - 20th century World History
An expert on modern France, North Africa, and the Mediterranean, with particular interests in the history of colonialism and information, @ArthurAsseraf's first book, 'Electric News in Colonial Algeria', was published with @OUPHistory last year.

His current research revolves around two projects: the relationship between race and rumour in Fifth Republic France, and a microhistory of an Algerian man in the 19th century who manipulated information to generate a large-scale scandal. Exciting stuff!

2) Hanno Balz is the @DAADCamHub Lecturer in Modern European History, and is a Fellow of @TrinityHallCamb.
He convenes the @MEHcambridge MPhil and teaches on @CamHistory's Paper 18 and Historical Argument and Practice, as well as @GermanCambridge's German Text and Culture.

His publications include, 'Von #Terroristen, Sympathisanten und dem starken Staat. Die öffentliche Debatte über die #RAF in den 70er Jahren ( @CampusVerlag)' and '"All We Ever Wanted...": Eine Kulturgeschichte europäischer #Protestbewegungen der 1980er Jahre ( @KarlDietzBerlin)'.
Hanno's current research focusses on two themes: the history of anti- #communism in #Germany, and the history of the colour #red & the symbolism of the red flag, which traces the politicisation of that colour - a fascinating and wide-ranging approach!

3) Professor Sir Christopher Clark is @Cambridge_Uni's Regius Professor of History at @CamHistory, and is the Ostrer Professorial Fellow in History at @Catz_Cambridge.
He currently convenes the @MEHcambridge Subject Group and supervises an extensive roster of graduate students.

An expert on #Prussia, his publications include the @WolfsonHistory Prize-winning 'Iron Kingdom: The Rise and Downfall of Prussia, 1600-1947' ( @Harvard_Press, 2006), and 'The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went to War in 1914' ( @AllenLaneBooks, 2011), which won the @LATimesBooks Prize.
Chris' most recent book is 'Time and Power: Visions of History in German Politics, from the Thirty Years' War to the Third Reich', which was published by @PrincetonUPress last year.
In 2015 he was made Knight Bachelor by @RoyalFamily & in 2019 received Germany's Pour le Mérite.

4) @CeliaDonert joined the @MEHcambridge team in 2019 as University Lecturer in 20th Century Central European History after leaving a personal chair at @LivUniHistory.
She is also a Fellow of @WolfsonCam and a Co-Editor of Contemporary European History ( @ContEuroHistory).

Prior to joining to @CamHistory, Celia held both a Visiting Professorship in the History of Human Rights and #Democracy at @UniVienna and a Visiting Fellowship at @FU_Berlin's Global History Department.
She also convenes @IHR_History's Rethinking Modern Europe Seminar.
