This is a hard lesson I had to learn. I remember I was on the phone with my friend who can braid and I broke down crying because my Marley braids didn’t come out right. I had internalized that being able to braid =being able to take care of your hair. She reminded me that + https://twitter.com/lNCONEGRO/status/1292651263176388608
that’s not true. You should only really braid your hair if you ENJOY doing it. It released me from so much hair trauma. I’ve always struggled with my hair and how it’s defined my beauty. I thought braiding would give me control but I truly hate it so why force myself to suffer? +
It’s apart of Black femmehood to have your hair done. To have those hands care and love for you. It’s ok to not be able to braid your own hair. You don’t need to suffer. And people will always be there to teach you only if you want to. +
Our hair does not have to be synonymous with pain and suffering. Our hair are spaces of beauty and creativity. Shaved or a kinky surplus, your crown remains beautiful and your own. ❤️
