It's been on my spirit to talk about the USPS. My parents met working at the post office. My grandfather, an immigrant, was able to create a life, sustain a family, send 4 kids to great schools, and help them build lives by working at the post office.
The post office has always been a part of my life, from visiting my dad at work, to attending stamp collecting conferences at the Javitz center. And, while I thought this would be corny as hell to share, I realized lots of other ppl might have similar experiences because
The post office has been a way for Black people (and many other disenfranchised ppl) to create wealth, have benefits, and really just participate in the "American dream" that systemic racism tries to rob from us.
The post office is a public good, one that I definitely took for granted. It's also a way for many people, who may not be able to get to the polls in November because of a poorly handled pandemic, to cast their vote, which is a right.
So I think it's a good idea to pay attention to what past administrations have done, as well as to what the current administration is doing, to gut the USPS. It may seem trivial to some, but it's a big deal that maybe we as a collective can try to stop somehow.
I don't have any answers, but I have hope, and a book full of Bugs Bunny stamps from my childhood like a nerd.
