#nzpol as Transformers, a thread 1/n
Jacinda Ardern - Optimus Prime
An instantly recognisable symbol of authority, morality, kindless, and competence. Had the Matrix of Leadership thrust upon her.
Grant Robertson - Ultra Magnus
Likely first choice for leader if anything happened to Optimus. The strategic brains of the Autobot war effort.
Winston Peters - Quintesson Judge
Many faces, as old as time itself, doesn’t have an agenda other than perpetuating its role dominating the other Cybertronian races and taking revenge on those who overthrew him millennia ago.
Judith Collins - Starscream
Always telling people what they’d do if they were leader. Now the leader. Happy to play whatever role is required in pursuit of power.
James Shaw - Bumblebee
Everyone likes Bumblebee, but nobody is actually sure what he adds to the mix other than being a friendly face.
Marama Davidson - Jazz
Secretly the coolest of all the Autobots and incredibly badass.
David Seymour - Shrapnel
Leader of the Insecticons, gets an episode in the spotlight once a season where he & his fellow Insecticons seem like a genuine threat before being defeated by an obvious flaw in their plan. Would consume all of earth's resources without a second thought.
Simon Bridges - Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime
Was cool before assuming the leadership, changed when assuming the leadership and lost all those charming qualities, but on leaving the leadership is cool once more.
Trevor Mallard - Omega Supreme
A Guardian of Cybertron and intervenes only ever on the side of the Autobots when they need a get out of jail free card.
Todd Muller, Matt Doocey, Brett Hudson - Reflector
While physically three separate robots, they’re all identical and share the same personality.
Chris Bishop - Soundwave
Most likely to end up in a nightclub fight using music. National’s liberal wing are essentially his cassettes.
Sir John Key - Megatron
The Decepticons controlled Cybertron when Megatron was in charge. Now they don’t.
Casts a long shadow over all subsequent Decepticon leaders.
Terrifies the Autobots and, depending on the continuity, much more powerful than Optimus Prime.
Sir Bill English - Shockwave
There’s many debates as to who Megatron’s most trusted lieutenant was, but Shockwave was entrusted with Cybertron when Megatron chased the Autobots to Earth. Much more powerful, influential, and cunning than anyone gives credit to.
Christopher Luxon - Galvatron
Touted as a better, more powerful Megatron, but this never panned out in the series or with fans. Remains to be seen how this reboot goes for the character.
Chris Hipkins - Prowl
Due to immense logic circuits able to process multiple scenarios (or portfolios) simultaneously.
Kelvin Davis - Ironhide
One of the toughest Autobots and bodyguard to Optimus Prime. Lasts just a few seconds under Decepticon attack in the 1986 movie.
Dr Megan Woods - Elita-One
There's no one you'd trust more to stay behind on Cybertron and battle Shockwave than Elita-One. Formidable Autobot and could easily takeover the leadership if required.
Helen Clark - Alpha Trion
Holds a mystical status amongst Autobots, having orchestrated their history and ideology for millions of years. Still holds significant sway over current Autobot leadership.
Sir Rob Muldoon - Unicron
Large robot who consumes planets or god who devours reality? Is there a difference? Does it matter? Never truly dies and keeps trying to entice Cybertronians to resurrect his polici... er... body.
BONUS: @GraemeEdgeler - Perceptor
Seems to know everything about anything and not shy in letting fellow Cybertronians know about it. Admired for depth of knowledge, but fellow Cybertronians love nothing more than pointing out when Perceptor gets it wrong.
BONUS: @PronouncedHare - Cyclonus
One of the best characters to emerge from the 1986 movie. Fiercely loyal but principled and honourable Decepticon. In the G1 continuity was originally Skywarp before Unicron reformatted him, who loved trolling both Decepticon and Autobot alike.
BONUS: @kilbrniesanders - Astrotrain
The only Cybertronian progressive enough to have a train as an alt-form
(someone tell Colonel Sanders about this seeing as he's taking a Twitter break)
BONUS: @David_Cormack - Blaster
According to the letters to the editor section apparently acts as the Autobots' communications coordinator.
BONUS: Me - Thundercracker
Not totally convinced of the Decepticons' cause, but continues battling. Doubts about his cause sometimes impedes his effectiveness.
