I tweeted a mini-thread today about how EOs were going to be the undoing of this republic, but I swear, watching the Dems say "Hey, he can't do that" after their collective circle jerk when president phone and pen enacted DACA is surreal.
Obama: I don't have the authority to do this (DACA).

Obama: Oh what the heck, here's DACA by EO.

SCOTUS Justice Roberts: Totally cool.

Trump: Here's an EO to do [lots of things that should never be done by EO].

The left: Totally bogus.

Me: Haha fuck you.
I've made this point until I'm blue in the face, but I'll make it again since some of you seem determined to misunderstand the situation, but here it is:
If one side continues to play by the rules while the other side plays Calvinball (if you don't get this reference, consider your education a failure), it's an inequitable situation. Also politically suicidal.
Eventually the one side figures out that playing by the rules is a fool's errand and starts playing Calvinball as well.

Well meaning, but incorrect people: You can't fix a wrong by doing the same wrong act.

Me: "Thank you sir, may I have another?!" is not a strategy.
This is not who we are!

We're better than this!

We should never sink to their level!

No one should allow their principles to become a suicide pact. I've been screaming about EO abuse since Clinton was president, so 25-30 years, but no one seemed to care as long as their guy got to use it.
Clinton used an EO to make -IIRC- tobacco vending machines illegal. Pretty sure he didn't have the authority to do so, but he did it. The egregious Paul Begala: "Stroke of the pen, law of the land. Pretty cool." There were more. A lot more.
Dems were giddy about it. They were somewhat less giddy when W decided hey, this EO thing is pretty cool. The screeching was loud, but I was too busy laughing at them to care. Then Obama upped the ante, IMO, with DACA.
"If Congress won't act, I will. I've got a phone and a pen." So now Trump. I'll be honest: you cannot make me care anymore. There's no more regard for the Constitution. Most of the text is treated as dead letter law.
Apparently there are a lot of citizens who want a king, not a president. Many of them seem surprised that the king is not always the person they wanted in charge. As for me, I'll enjoy my bit of schadenfreude as the republic continues to crumble.
I might as well laugh because tears won't help. Things will really go sideways at some point and at this point I don't believe it's possible to avoid it. Might as well laugh while I can.
So if you're expecting me to applaud Trump's action (politically, probably a plus for him), or if you think I'll tut-tut him for violating my principles, you'll be sadly disappointed. I'm merely observing at this point.
