a thing i really miss is the city fuckaround, where you go into manhattan to run a dumb errand but then are like, why don't i just stroll for a bit and somehow hours later you find yourself gin tipsy in a sephora putting on a full face???
other things that could (theoretically) happen during a city fuckaround: dollar pizza, matinee movie u found out was playing less than 15 mins before, the purchase of outfit you will never wear but have Big Plans for, drinks w/whatever friend lives close + who answers your texts
honorable mentions: the buying of 5 used books you can't really carry home but it's not like you can just LEAVE them on the $1 cart at the strand, a cigarette you bum from an nyu grad student and never discuss again, karaoke in k-town with whatever motley crew you can assemble
and let's not forget: walking up 5th avenue with a real jam in your headphones feeling invincible at sunset, drinking a martini by yourself at a bar and making best friends with a stranger you will NOT remember, moving that martini energy into a plate of fries you do not share
and all because you had a dental cleaning in midtown east at like 4:30 pm....whoops!
every artist has a medium and mine is wasting time in manhattan babyyyy
the key to a city fuckaround is there are zero premeditated decisions; it's all instinct, cravings, convenience, whoever is nearby, whatever bauble-filled window you pass, whatever dough smell entices you like you are hansel AND gretel, the whole thing is about no impulse control
2020 is many things but above all it is a year of controlled moves, plans, wiping down and strapping in and masking up; as it should be....but like, i miss deciding what my night will be five minutes before i turn a corner. an energy i hope returns!!!!
if we ever make it out of this you better believe i am putting on glitter boots and going into the city with no plans except to come home after 1am and i am going to be texting everyone whose apartment i pass to join the crew on our way to a 90s dance night, nobody is safe
i'm just so glad to know the rest of you relate!!!!!!
