This is long but please read. It could save your life. One of my worst fears came true last night while I was home alone. I was prepared and called the police. Please read to educate yourself about my experience so that hopefully you never have to go through something similar 1

At about 1030 last night my doorbell rang. I was already in bed and all of the lights in my home were off. I figured they just had the wrong home and would go away. A few seconds later the doorbell rang again. I was worried and grabbed my taser and headed downstairs 2

I tried to look through my windows, but they were completed fogged over. All I could see was a car parked on the street in a tow-zone. A few seconds later I could hear the door handle rattling but THANK GOD the deadbolt was locked and I had a safety bar under my door handle. 3

I dialed 911, gave them my address and what was happening. Around 8 minutes later, the police arrived and walked around the house before coming to my door. They said that there was no sign of anyone, but they had left something on my doormat. A bag of food. 4

There was no label or anything on the food, just a plastic bag with some containers. The police checked with my neighbors, but no one had ordered food. Here’s what the police told me -

They said that since people aren’t out and about as much with COVID, human traffickers are being forced to get creative. A new ploy of theirs is to “deliver food to the wrong address” and when you open the door, they take you. Thankfully I didn’t open the door. 6

The worst part - they said that it was likely that my house had been watched and they knew that I was there alone that night. 7

I don’t think this has anything to do with where I live, and my front door is VERY well lit. This just happens. PLEASE be aware. Get a safety bar for your door. Purchase a taser. Don’t open the door for strangers. It’s something we learned in kindergarten. Be. Aware. 8
