When I was a kid, I loved watching Yu-Gi-Oh but it was a long time before my mum actually got me some cards so I made my own while I waited.
People seem to enjoy the terrible home made cards I made when I was a kid so I'm going to try and post at least one a day here. (1/??)
Warning: These are all bad. I only had the show as a reference point back then and wouldn't even be watching the show when I was making the cards so they were all from memory.
Many are extremely cringeworthy & there are some BAD original cards.
Without further ado let's begin...
The first parts of the collection I will share are the parts of the forbidden one as they were so iconic in the first episode.
The very first card "Exodia the forbidden one" or as I called it "Head of egsodieya".
Note: I made 3 of each because that rate hunter guy had 3 of each.
We then move on to the "Left arm of the forbidden one" or as I called it "Left arm of egsodieya".
In my defense, I don't remember them referring to it as the forbidden one so I think I get a pass on this one.
Next is the "Right arm of the forbidden one" or as I called it "right arm of egsodieya". At least my egsodieya spelling is consistent.
Next is the left "Left leg of the forbidden one" or "Leg of egsodieya". Don't know why there's a big cut in the side of one, maybe I hadn't mastered scissors yet.
Next is the "Right leg of the forbidden one" or "Right leg of egsodieya".
And that's all the piece of the forbidden one. Unless...
Reasoning of child me: if 5 parts of "egsodieya" is unbeatable then 10 parts of "egsodieya" is double unbeatable so presenting the other parts I made as a child. First OC we have is the "eyes of egsodieya".
Next OC we have is the "Teeth of egsodieya". Don't know why one has a tongue.
Next OC is the "Chains of egsodieya". Yano, to whip his enemies or something like that.
Next is the "ARmor of egsodieya". What kind of forbidden one would "egsodieya" be if he didn't wear "armor" into battle.
Last part of "egsodieya" is my personal favourite, the "Hair of egsodieya".
I hope you enjoyed laughing at child me's expense. If you liked these, come back to this thread tomorrow for the next installment.
Bonus for yesterday: My housemate had some custom cards made for my birthday so here are the OC parts of egsodieya in real card form.
And of course the hair of egsodieya
Day 2: Sticking with iconic cards from the show, here's my blue eyes white dragons.
Of course there's 3 because Kaiba had 3.
I wasn't great at keeping the cards consistent in size or shape as you can see in the picture of all 3 together.
Day 3: After making 3 blues eyes white dragons, child me decided he had effectively mastered the art of drawing blue eyes white dragon.
Red eyes black dragon seemed to hard to draw (and too much colouring) so I made an original card. Presenting "Red eyes white dragon".
Day 4: Anyone remember the labyrinth episodes with the paradox brothers?
Well I thought Gate Guardian was cool so I made all of the parts that came together to make it but couldn't remember their names so here's "Sanga of the Thunder" or as I called it "Lightning element (top)"
Here's "Kazejin" or as I called it "Grass element (middle)".
I like how I included the position in Gate guardian for each monster in their name in case I'd somehow forgot.
Lastly here's "Suijin" or as I called it "water element (bottom)".
For some reason, I didn't make Gate Guardian itself into a card.
Maybe I thought it was like Exodia and the parts magically combined or maybe I just thought it was too hard to draw.
Guess we'll never know.
Day 5: My version of the Dark magician.
Can't fault it too much because I'd made sure it had the key components: a staff and pointy hat.
The cape is a little unnecessary though.
Day 6: "Flame Swordsman" or as I called it "flame sourds man".
Some days I was better at colouring between the lines and then some days were like this.
Day 7: Today we have the "Mystical Elf" or as I called it "misticle elf".
I'm gonna try posting the original version as well for comparison to see if that fixes the twitter cropping.
Day 8: My version of "Polymerization" or as I spelt it "Parmirisasion".
That one is a hard one for a child to spell but I feel like I didn't even try here.
Day 9: For today's card I have "Monster Reborn" or I called it "Reborn the monster".
In my defence, the show would often call this card "Reborn the Monster" for some reason.
Probably to make it more dramatic.
Day 10: My version of "Gaia the Fierce Knight". I was so close to spelling this one right but I had to spoil it and call him a "Fiece" knight.
Day 10 Bonus: Here's an improved "Giai the fierce knight" I drew in 2017 for Inktober.
Day 11: Let's now have a look at the Egyptian God Cards because kid me was obviously going to make those mad beasts.
Let's start with the one that I think looks the most accurate to the original. "Obelisk the Tormentor" or "Obelix the tormenter".
Day 12: Next Egyptian God we have is "Slifer the Sky Dragon" or "Slither the sky dragon".
I think in this case, slither is an apt description for this angry worm.
Day 13: The last of the Egyptian Gods I made. If you didn't think kid me was any good at drawing, prepare to be proven wrong.
Here is my version of "The Winged Dragon of Ra" or "Winged dragon of raw".
I remember in the anime, everyone who tried to use a fake version of Winged Dragon of Ra was struck by lightning for angering the God.
I've not been struck, so that must mean my version was better than their shitty phoneys.
Day 14: Today we have the "Magician of Black Chaos" or as I called it "caouse mage".
Nope. Can't find anything nice to say about this one.
They're both angry which is a plus. I guess...
Day 15: We have 2 versions of "Book of Secret Arts" for today.
There is the adequate one which at least looks like an open book.
And then there's a blue square.
Day 16: Today we have the "Illusionist Faceless Mage" which appeared like once in the anime but was in the opening so kid me assumed they were important enough to have 2 versions.
Also didn't even attempt to spell illusionist.
Day 17: Here we have the "Two Headed King Rex".
Child me clearly didn't want to acknowledge this monster as a king. I can only assume this was because he held very strong anti-monarchy principles and had no other outlet for these values as Myspace was still many years away.
Day 18: I didn't quite understand ritual cards as a kid. I think I just assumed if you had the ritual card then that's the same as having the ritual monster.
Here's my versions of "Black Luster Ritual" or "Blackcluster richawull" with no "Blackcluster soldier" to accompany it.
Day 19: Today's homemade cards from the past feature two different "Time Wizard" designs which are both equally inaccurate & raise further questions.
Why was I so sure the cape was red?
Why did I fill in the numbers on his face?
Why did I draw poliwhirl in a Time Wizard cosplay?
Day 20: Today we have "Baby Dragon".
Not much to say about this one except I was dead good at drawing dragons wasn't I?
Day 21: Now 3 weeks into looking back at my awful homemade yugioh cards.
Today we have "Kuriboh" or "cerebo" as I called it.
This one actually looks okay, a little angrier but has the general look.
Props to @yugiohtas for showing me the correct spelling.
Thanks LittleCerebo!
Day 22: Carrying on we have another staple from early yugioh, the "Summoned Skull" or as I called it "sumor/sumon scull".
The first one seems kinda shy which would explain why they didn't talk much in the show.
The second one just looks like Momo from Avatar.
Day 23: Today we have another of Yugi's earlier cards. We have the "Feral Imp" or as I called it "Phoro inth".
I'll be real with you guys, I actually had no idea what the name was supposed to be until I just Googled it then so I understand how I got this one so wrong.
Day 24: "Celtic Guardian" is today's card.
It seems the only features I really remembered about "Celtic Guardian" when I was making these cards was green, long hair and hat.
Good job kid me.
Day 25: Today we have "Swords of Revealing Light". I definitely heard this right as a kid but didn't know how to spell 'revealing' so just went for the nearest word that I could spell so here's "Swords of leveling light"
Day 26: Our card today is the "Spellbinding Circle".
The mind of a child is a strange thing.
Clearly this has no resemblance to the actual card apart from being a circle.
It looks more like Eddy's beyblade so maybe I'd have drawn it right if I had tried to draw the beyblade.
Day 27: I have absolutely no idea where I got the name "misticle horn" from.
I'm pretty sure they called it "Horn of the Unicorn" in the show so there's no excuse here.
Sometimes kid me was just being dumb.
Day 28: 4 weeks in and we have the popular "Trap Hole" card or as I simply called it "Hole".
The original art of the card had an interesting design, the POV of the monster trapped in the hole looking up at the hot sun.
I however, did a circle with some triangles and cone shapes.
Day 29: Today we have my versions of "Multiply".
Looking at them next to the original. I think I'm going to give kid me the win on this one.
Basic shape is there, colours aren't too far off and most importantly spelt the name right.
Not bad considering I did then all from memory
Day 30: Today we have "Brain Control" although I nearly had a card specifically designed to control "Brian" before I noticed the mistake and fixed it.
Unfortunately kid me didn't think to use a rubber which is kinda the point of writing in pencil...
Day 31: Today I'm guessing much more than usual.
I think this card was based on "Shield & Sword" as I reckon the Attack & Defence circles represent swapping those stats for all monsters just like "Shield & Sword".
OR this is an original card but those are coming on a later date.
Day 32: Today we have "Living Arrow".
I don't remember much about this one but I definitely remember whether it was a wide card or not.
It wasn't.
Then why did I make a version that was so damn wiiiiide???
I also made one with the right height/width so I knew how it should look.
Day 33: Today we have another installment of "Kid Tom didn't understand basic proportions of cards".
I made two versions of "Mirror Wall". Again, I have 1 vaguely similar to the original but also 1 that I just drew a blue rectangle and then closed my eyes while cutting it out.
Day 34: I must have got distracted while making this "Sangan" card as I didn't bother to write the name or even finish the last eye.
Or I just got bored of this one as "Sangan" isn't exactly the most interesting card, especially when you're a kid & effects don't seem important.
Day 35: Today we have "Dragon Piper".
As you might have guessed by this point, I'm not great at colours.
Picking them or using them.
Sometimes as a kid I would just think "I'll make it brown because I've got lots of brown pencils".
Gave him legs aswell... for some reason.
Day 36: "Swordstalker".
Clearly I misheard the name to call it "Sword Stocker" but that means I definitely heard the word sword at least. Then whyyy did I draw him with an axe instead of a sword!?
Day 37: "Orgoth the Relentless".
This is the first time I've seen the correct spelling for "Orgoth" so I don't blame kid me for mistaking it for "Orgofe".
However... "lelentlice". Yeah. Not proud of that spelling.

At least it's purple and has a sword. Kinda.
Day 38: "Copycat".
This one is an odd one because I can still clearly picture what I was trying to draw from the show but it's obviously not what this card is and I have no idea where I got this image from.
If anyone recognises what I was drawing, please comment.
Day 39: "Battle Ox"
You may call colouring everything in brown lazy, but I call it ingenuity.
Day 40: "Millennium Shield"
I quite admire the confidence kid me had in his drawing ability.
I must have been like:
"I remember that the shield had an Egyptian eye on it. That's enough information to make a masterpiece"
Day 41: "Thousand-eyes Idol"
I think I decided tol be lazy and draw every eye except 1 closed. Compared to some of the previous cards, this one isn't TOO far off the original.
I do like that one of them has closed eyes also on his hat.
Day 42: "Thousand-Eyes Restrict"
So I clearly didn't remember much about this card.
I remembered lots of eyes, big middle eye and 0 ATK/DEF.
Everything else was shit.
I find it interesting that I forgot the word "Restrict" but went with "Control" which has a similar meaning.
Day 43: "Cocoon of Evolution"
I'm just confused by this one.
All I needed to draw was a pink bean with some web on it and yet somehow ended up with this.
Why does it have spikes?
Why does it have bumps?
What even is an "evoulion"!?
Day 44: "Mystical Moon"
Apart from forgetting the word "mystical" I couldn't really ask much more from kid me for this card. It's definitely a moon with those massive craters. Maybe I could have gave it a little colour but there's a few cards I was too lazy to colour so whatever.
Day 45: "Toon World"
I had "mastered" drawing books at this specific angle so this card should have been really easy for kid me.
All I needed to make it perfect was the castle sticking out of the book.
Kid me (probably): "Nah too much effort, just the book will do"
Day 46: "Curse of Dragon"
Must have forgot the name and just named it after things I saw in the monster.
I also drew it a bit more chonky than the original.
Day 47: "Dragon Capture Jar"
I'm gonna say what we're all thinking.
This is a perfect copy and I can't even remember which one is the original and which is my drawing.
Day 48: "Reaper of the Cards"
This cards was legitimately scary in the episode that it was chasing the gang round the monster graveyard trying to kill them so I wanted to really capture that sinister creepy vibe in my version.
I did not succeed.
Day 49: "Salamandra"
My version looks more shocked than the original.
Probably because someone took his sword away.
Day 50: "Man-Eater Bug"
I definitely knew the correct name for this card.
For some reason, I remember kid me worrying about copyright for this card specifically.
Giving birth to "Man eating cocroch".
Gotta admire the self-confidence, thinking konami would care about my version.
Day 51: "Pophecy"
Sometimes I picked cards because they had simple designs.
This may have been one of those times.
Day 52: "Slot Machine"
I probably didn't have a yellow pencil nearby and thought "blue is basically yellow".
Day 53: "7 Completed"
I remember they used 3 of these in the show so kid me treated these as a pieces of "egsodieya" situation with yesterday's "Slot Game".
What does "Sevener" even mean!?
Day 54: "Invigoration"
I was absolutely no where near the right name here.
In what world does "emoltalise" sound anything like "Invigoration"?
Day 55: "Chaos Shield"
When I searched for this card I found the name "Chaos Shield" was an anime only name and the actual name is "Yellow Luster Shield".
Cool, I guess...

Also this card is clearly just a big blue rectangle and I couldn't spell chaos.
Day 56: "Labyrinth Wall"
Couldn't spell Labyrinth as a kid so maze will do.
Think I was going for a mix of "Labyrinth Wall" & "Magical Labyrinth" because it wasn't clear how they worked in the show.
Think this was my favourite duel in duelist kingdom even if it did make no sense.
Day 57: "Gorgon's Eye"
Drawing some snakes wouldn't have been too hard but I decided to just make the eye surrounded by a nondescript purple blob instead... at least the eye looks like an eye!
Day 58: "Thunder Ball"
This one was from the dungeon dice monsters episodes.
I've only just found out that this was actually a dice monsters exclusive so that makes my cards truly unique.
