in academy phase it is hinted at so many times that they both have similar dreams but they both shoot down the idea of being able to reach it together. but playing through VW and CF, you know that the dreams are fundamentally the same, just different in purpose.

AND YET KNOWING THAT, IT STILL CANT HAPPEN. Edelgard admits that they're goal cannot be achieved without her blood in VW, while even if spared, Claude admits that he has no place in Edelgard's Fodlan in CF.

BUT AS THE PLAYER, YOU KNOW THAT THEY WANT THE SAME THING, AND THAT IF THEY WORKED TOGETHER THEY COULD MAKE A UNITED FODLAN WITH OPEN BORDERS WITHOUT THE LEADERSHIP OF THE CHURCH BUT BECAUSE OF THE PATHS THEY CHOSE BEFORE EVEN COMING TO THE ACADEMY IT'LL NEVER WORK IN CANON.
