have i mentioned that this is one of my favorite lines in the game and one of the things i love so much about claude?
he& #39;s wary of the church of seiros, of rhea, and what that means for the people of fĂłdlan, bc he knows things don& #39;t always add up or make much sense, but all the same, this is one of those lines that proves he has no interest in totally dismantling that system
he has a fundamental understanding that just taking it away wouldn& #39;t be of benefit, because it gives people strength and something to believe in, even if HE doesn& #39;t personally believe in it, and i really just respect that frame of mind
this exchange in his leonie support builds on it nicely, too. i just love that he still finds a way to respect other people& #39;s beliefs while staying true to his own, it& #39;s so refreshing, imo
coming back to this thread because this continues to build upon the idea that claude absolutely respects the idea of people& #39;s varying faiths and beliefs despite his issue with rhea& #39;s obvious revisionist history
he knows that rhea is lying and keeping secrets, and he knows those things foster the worst mentality; it keeps people ignorant and obedient... he wants to smash THAT aspect of things without totally dismantling the church and what people believe in, and that& #39;s... good shit
especially because he wants to do it as peacefully as they can manage. he knows edelgard is fighting for a similar cause, but her "ends justifies the means" approach just contrasts with his fundamental, core values.
