so a lot of us were confused, upset and shocked when kk*m gave the translation that jm said an ableist slur. for the past few months i’ve been researching the situation and here’s what i found
FIRST and foremost, there was no “uproar” on korean twitter. the video was seen and korean fans said nothing about it. k-fans only started talking about it AFTER kk*m gave the translation. this is them explaining what happened and how it was “funny”
secondly, a lot of the k-fans that “confirmed” this translation are known dream/jm antis so i’d question the validity of their statements. one being an indonesian fan?
third, i asked my korean friend for what he said actually meant and this is what was said . she explained there is no actual word for it and it’s a loose translation given by naver and can be easily mistaken
furthermore, we spoke about the outlash and if he ACTUALLY was being ableist, especially as an SM idol fans would be extremely mad and SM would 100% make a statement
following up on that , some fans alongside my friend, discussed the context of the situation. why would jm who was trying to compliment his friend suddenly call him an ableist slur it didn’t make sense, so i asked
finally? this part i can’t 100% confirm so take it with a pinch of salt. there were speculations of kkum being a jm anti. if you’re wondering about how this is possible just today a dream stan account was revealed to be prejudiced towards jm. it happen. it would also explain why+
all the “korean” fans that confirmed the translation were known dream/jm antis.
i will add more to this thread if i can find any but please take the time to read.
UPDATE: i was sent these, they garnered a lot of popularity and attention on reddit. please read. they basically explain that the word isn’t the r slur and how he meant to say a compliment that is worded similar

UPDATE: another korean fan further confirmed that there is no “r slur” in the korean language

to add on, i’m not making this thread to put down ND fans and how they felt. i myself am an ND fan, i didn’t use to count myself as ND (i have ahdhd) my friends and i were affected by this aswell, but i wanted to have an objective perspective on it.
adding on to the “kkum learning korean from a newspaper” i received further info explaining that so i deleted it to avoid giving any misinfo !!

i’m explaining this again. i apologise for not putting this disclaimer earlier but i didn’t expect this to gain traction. i’m not defending him or whatever. when i hyperfocus i make threads of info and put them together.
