I am going to say this plainly: It is *never* the role of the Christian pastor to shill for Caesar, whether the last name of Caesar is Clinton, Bush, Obama, or Trump. /a short thread
Yes, it is every Christian’s duty to pray for Caeser, in sincerity as often as we remember them, & in our common worship, but it is every Christian pastor’s solemn duty, every Christian leader’s unalloyed obligation, to make God’s demands on the ruler known, to confront the king.
We are called especially to examine and publicly address their care (or carelessness) towards the poor, the day laborer, the oppressed, the immigrant, the prisoner, the child, the widow, the elderly, the frail, and so on through all those most precious in his sight.
It is arguably our job to confront the ruler’s moral standing before God and the people, and call out their worship of idols, and warn them of the judgment that awaits every human.

Please see Joseph, Moses, Deborah, Nathan, Elisha, Jeremiah, Daniel, Mary, Jesus, Paul...
...John of Patmos, John Chrysostom, Ambrose, Francis, Thomas à Becket, Martin Luther, William Wilberforce, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Karl Barth, Dorothy Day, Martin Luther King, Jr.,, Desmond Tutu, John Paul II, and Mother Teresa.
So we are never to shill, always to pray, and ever have the courage of our position to prophecy in writing, in the public square, and in the pulpit concerning the places where Caesar is at odds with the God revealed in Jesus Christ.
