Spent the majority of my life excited for VT & college football as whole. I can’t get excited about the season, currently. A weird mix of dread, curiosity, & misplaced values, that has always been with me (us), but it’s exponentially more this season.
I fully understand the desperation of a system, that before I thought was too big to fail. Now, I don’t believe that. The economic reach of college football really is unbelievable, schools, towns, etc. The pressure of money is worth more than health, short or long term.
We have barely scratched the depth of long term health & economic upheaval, but hey let’s try to be normal. Life currently is a round hole and we are trying to jam a square peg in it. We as a country have proven we can’t isolate. Only a vaccine will end this.
So I guess this is fine, lets just see where the American darwainism takes us, but at least we have football.
I won’t say I am giving it up or won’t watch, because I will, but I won’t feel good about it or me. I do care less about results on the field. It really doesn’t matter. Almost feels stupid, that it’s mattered so much before, if being honest.
I get everyone is different and we all view things differently and each’s perspective is shaped by many variables. I’m not going run anyone down who feels differently. You do you, but cfb just feels unimportant, except for the money. That’s the real driver, nothing else.
Anyway, less a conversation and more me just letting steam out. Thanks for listening, my mixtape of sad college football stories comes out on September 12th.
