Now that the first domestic season under this matrix is over it's a good time to look at some data. I quickly put together which players have achieved the most scores above the average Gold Day winning score and plotted them vs age. Outliers are labelled. Mids: #footballindex
Forwards dominated by the GOATs + Neymar. Aside from Fati, Mbappe and Barrow at 21 are the two youngest players with a score good enough to win the "average" gold day.
Defenders dominated by #lfc in what was a dominant season for the Reds. As you would expect there are less multiple high scorers in the defenders category. Reguilon, Periera, Max and Halstenburg the only non-LFC defenders with 2+ >gold day average scores.
Finally Gold Day star man. The biggest prize on FI! When Cyprien and Werner went big they went really big. Both of their big scores breaking the average star man win. The rest of the multiple >gold day average scorers are the elite mids and fwds so no surprises. #footballindex
Caveats time! This is only domestic PB scores so no CL, EL or internationals which avoids multipliers and irregular competition. I realised after starting to post this it would have been better to use the median average rather than the mean but it shouldn't make a huge difference
I find that as a long term predictor this isolates players who can consistently hit big scores ( some of whom have been unlucky this season that another player has happened to score highly on the same day) as opposed to just looking at PB yield where the opposite is often true.
