I appreciate Marvel (MCU) movies a lot because they helped popularize the comic book movie genre. As a fan of Marvel comics, I’ve had a bit of an edge compared to other viewers because I had more context but we could still engage perfectly regardless lf whether...
The person in conversation has read the comics or not. The MCU has the best connected universe, all heroes exist in the same universe. The roster just keeps expanding, I still can’t believe that we had our favorite comic book heroes appear on the big screen.
Another thing Marvel does well is casting. I’m gonna refrain from using Black panther as an example because of the horrible Xhosa. Think about how perfectly Scarlet Johansson fits the role of Black Widow, Chris Evan as Captain A or Chris Hemsworth as Thor.
Not only do these people have superb acting skills but they actually look like their comic book counterparts. Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange was probably the best Marvel casting decision ever, Iron Man too.
Let’s talk about directors. We have James Gunn (One of my favs) Taika Waititi, the Russo bros, Ryan Clooger etc. Their work was lovely. I could write an essay alone on the pros and cons of Black Panther’s portrayal of African culture esp. from an non-African standpoint.
Although the movies borrow only a few things from the books, they still have enough to make their stories compelling and as a Marvel fan, I’m happy.
RIP Stan Lee, thank you for building this universe for us.

Femicide is still an issue so please, keep educating each other, don’t lose patience.
Colourism is a thing, lightskin privilege is a thing. This shouldn’t even present grounds for a fight, it is true. Don’t be ignorant, we need to stop fighting among ourselves. Accept, learn, move.
