In this thread I'll try to make sense why is it that kid Eren saw Armin in Paths.
First of all let me say, Eren's guilt doesn't override his actions. The new chapter makes me sympathize for him cause he we see him trying to change small things about his future. Trying to save a kid, getting a different answer from Mikasa and whatnot.
BUT he still right here in this panel himself says he has to do all of this. It isnt as if he is doing this just cause destiny, he has a innate desire to carry it out too.
+
One other thing is, kid Eren may have thought of Armin so much that he himself manifested him in Paths
We've even known how in the first chapter Mikasa says see you later to this same kid Eren and how he replies with "When did your hair get so long, Mikasa?". So in order for this theory to make sense let's just think that it wasn't JUST symbolic that kid Eren saw Armin .
Okay hope I made myself clear on that, moving on.

FINALLY MY THEORY
I was thinking that since narratively last chapter we saw Eren reinforcing himself to carry out the Rumbling. How his thirst for revenge and freedom burns out his desire to protect his friends. Now the Eren we see in this chapter is kinda different (ignoring the stomping lmao)
he is very weak and its really hard for him to do all this. Imo it was either adult Eren himself or Ymir who let kid Eren take over so he doesn't have to experience all of this killing and feel guilt.
Now I think that panel of kid Eren seeing now Armin could be Erens way of letting Armin know his location. Or atleast well trying to tell him, subconsciously.
Now Eren has been a slave to his destiny. Both in 130 / 131 we saw panels of him saying that all of this is ahead of us
Eren doesn't think of anyone as animals, he even calls them people in this chapter. Even thinks what his mother would think of him in this moment. Eren even acknowledges he's much worse than Reiner.

(Its the bare minimum but still worth pointing out)
Now which Eren is it that Armin and Mikasa trust the most. Either teen Eren or 11 yr old passion fueled Eren. We saw that little kid Eren look at Armin. And we know it wasnt a dream. Armin WAS in Paths and he did see kid Eren.
That might be Erens way of trying to give his location away to Armin so they can come stop him or free him from his destiny. Eren is struggling to go up against his own destiny.
And if we know what we're told by Isayama in RTS and Uprsing arc you cant change anything if you dont work together to change it.
Erwin was able to win against Beast Titan and save everyone and secure humanity's future because he himself took part in the charge. It's all pieces solving a puzzle.
I think it makes thematic sense too. Eren is asleep rn and Ymir is the one lashing out on the world. She has Eren as a kid in a dreaming so he cant rebel against her. That's the new deal that Eren made when he freed Ymir in 122. He became a kid while she becomes corporeal
The deal was to stay as a child having no idea what's happening below him while he enjoys the scenery born out of blood above the clouds. But theres a small part of this Eren that's resisting. That wants to stop all of this at once. And he's trying to let Armin know
I know this completely backtracks all my other theories on Eren being 100% set on the Rumbling and if this happens then it isnt Eren who is controlling himself but its Ymir who was being given a choice by Eren to lash out on the world.
I also dont think the Alliance will have to kill Ymir for all of this to stop. Like I said Eren is asleep and when the Alliance do reach him he'll try his best to stop them cause that's what destiny has in store for him
Think of it as there's like 10% part of him that's working against both himself, his destiny and Ymir to stop all this.
