Lesson of the week #faroeislands http://kvf.fo/greinar/2020/08/05/torshavn-mayor-keep-your-kids-home">https://kvf.fo/greinar/2...
Children in Tórshavn have to stay home because some people did not follow social distancing guidelines during Ólavsøka
This partly the fault of politicians and Tórshavn mayor and kommune not giving strong enough message pre Ólavsøka
Good example is in the weeks running up to the event. Job adverts appeared for bar staff to work through the night when supposedly there would be restrictions.
This was only going to end one way. A large scale gathering with Covid19 transmission. Add into the mix alcohol consumption which impairs judgement you have the perfect set of conditions.
So now the new measures disproportionately effect those who have had no part in the spread of the virus aka children in Tórshavn.
Those that sensibly followed guidelines, elderly, immune compromised and others with pre-existing conditions have justification to be angry
I cannot say this strongly enough.
It is time for Faroese politicians to stop pretending that sitting out here in the North Atlantic we are somehow untouchable

The science behind the transmission of Covid19 is clear, at the current time social distancing works and is one of our best tools for reducing transmission.
Time for politicians to front up and lead by example
1) Discuss the practicalities social distancing at gatherings
2) Does social distancing need to be enforced by law, fines at large gatherings etc ?
4) Most importantly politicians need to lead by example. The fact that many politicians insisted on gathering in the center of Havn for the celebration leads to a mixed message.
I dont wish to publicly shame people who were at the event but in hindsight it was the wrong thing to do. Messaging is important with infectious diseases to persuade people to adhere to guidelines
What is lawful and what is wise are not necessarily the same thing.
Here endeth this thread. Stay safe and have a great weekend
