1. Thread 👇 #Belfast I took a little dander around the north west corner of the Market area. One of the few Georgian parts of the City dating from 1833 to 1858 that survived the Blitz,Troubles & City Developers/Planners.Still Homes rather than offices
2. #Belfast JoyStreet was known as the”Street of the Three P’s”, Pride,Poverty&Pianos. Each house had a Piano for use of music hall artists performing at Empire&other theatres.CharlieChaplin lodged at number 24 in 1906/7,shown here.Acroos the road is a tiny bronze statue of him.
3. #Belfast The new Hamilton House building in Joy Street has Chaplin on the roof & carvings of motor sport heroes Scarpa,Mackintosh,Wright & Alto.
4. #Belfast At the back of the building in Rathbone Street are carvings of their vehicles.😎
5. #Belfast On the corner of Sussex Place & Rathbone Street is the derelict 1878 Victorian St.Malachy’s School.Hopefully it will not be destroyed by our corrup &/or incompetent City Planners & developers. 😎
6. #Belfast Next door to the school, the old 1879/80 Victorian St.Joseph’s Convent of Mercy has been sympathetically restored & converted into rental apartments. 😎
7. #Belfast A memorial plaque to Joe McCann sits on the end of Joy Street near corner of Hamilton Street. There have been a few paintings of the Street, most notable being William Conor’s 1923 “Wedding in Joy Street”.😎
8. #Belfast Music Hall Lane is a distant reminder of the areas past. Further along from Joy Street on corner of Montgomery Street & Chichester Street sits The Garrick Bar(my local).Built in 1810 as a Merchant’s House,it became a Bar in 1880 & named the Garrick in 1890s.
9. #Belfast Final. These old areas need preserving and saved from Belfast City Planners & Developers who ruined swathes of our http://heritage.As  George Bermingham said;”I was born in Belfast & brought up to believe that like St.Paul,I am a citizen of no mean city.”😎
