If someone’s hot take triggers you, give them the benefit of the doubt and calmly ask “did you mean to say ___?” with a summary of how you interpreted it. Most of the time I’ve seen this clear up misunderstandings and diffuse potential flame wars.

It’s sad to see friendships end and friendly scenes melt down when people jump to conclusions over misinterpretated statements. It’s too easy to miss nuances of intent, and also to start a fight without first confirming assumptions. Try to use kindness before striking.
